Please do stop looking at women, especially at mass.
Seriously…!

I find it funny that a lot of people can actually remember what other people in the church are wearing at mass. My mind is totally focused on the Lord, and my priest who is giving an incredible homily and deserves the respect of our undivided attention. 🙂

Indeed. When in mass, I only notice people in my immediate vicinity, people that are making a good deal of noise, and people who move around a lot. And even then, I don’t pay attention to them.

I’ve always thought distraction was a choice. 😛

Dear Forum

Fellow-Men,

I have a question. I asked my Priest in Confession tonight on “Immodest Clothing”. I realise that tight pants are a problem.

However, What about “tight” shirts. Also, What would calssify as “tight” for shirts? I ask because my Priest said that this is “Grey”. I know it is sinful if I do it with the intent of arousing others. My question becomes though:

Since I workout, I like to wear “tighter”-than normal shirts. Meaning that they are not muscle shirt tight, but figure hugging. I realise it may be part of my little “ego” 😊, attempting to look really muscular, but I dont know,

Would this classify as immodest?

If not,

then what does??

FOR MEN.
I think it depends on context. In the gym, skin tight clothes are not even noticed, but maybe immodest since there are other options which are equally practical and comfortable. In the pool, a speedo is actually more appropriate than baggy board shorts which look out of place and draw attention to you. Obviously, you go for the navy blue or black model, rather than the white or pale blue. At a nude beach, you would stand out wearing anything at all. Personally, I think that guys look ridiculous trying to shower in a locker room in underwear, which one sees occasionally. Just whom are they being modest about? In a business meeting, a suit and tie is appropriate. On the street, you are not likely to wear a triathlon suit, etc… it is all about context.

My answer would be to think about the context, and try not to stand out as looking unusual. When you buy your clothing, choose the less revealing in terms of fit, rather than the more revealing. That way, you wardrobe will only have appropriate clothing in it, and you will be dressed appropriately.

I always thought that was the point - to focus on the mass. When I am distracted, I know it is my fault.

When I went to mass last week, I was surrounded by men wearing shorts…so men can dress strangely at church too…not just women…but in the end, if i lust, its my sin.

So, I stand by my original advice, that the OP should wear what he thinks is appropriate for himself and not worry too much about the sin of others. 👍

Worrying about fashion is grounds to have your man card yanked 😃 Wear whatever is the most comfortbale for you.

Avoid at all costs, as asthetically unappealing, at least these:
  • Tank tops with the cut out sides that show hairy flesh - or even if you’re toned, look like you’re showing off 😛
  • Underwear showing, saggy pants look
  • Speedos out of context - a swim meet is OK for aerodynamic purposes
Ladies with class will thank you. 😉

Hydrodynamic.

IMHO, if you are wearing something that makes you feel good about yourself while working out you will have a better work out session. Thank you for wanting to be modest while doing so.

BTW: I can’t tell you what anyone was wearing at Mass last Sunday except my Priest and deacon…I don’t even remember what I was wearing.
