When I was at school the catechism clealy stated the position on dress in church,infact everyday dress code. It stated that you should rise in the morning diligently,dress yourself MODESTLY,and then kneel down and say your morning prayers. What happened ?. I sometimes sit in church these days,and have to go all through Mass being distacted by the sight of a woman’s underwear,of the person sitting in front of me. It seems to me that in these modern times, the church is governed by society,instead of society being lead by the church. “Your’s in Christ” Trevor Paul Vincent.

Hello Trevor Ingleby,

My ancestors hail from Staffordshire, England. 🙂

Modesty, and respect for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I’m a female whose seen middle-aged and older men enter the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel wearing shorts. I just quickly tell myself that maybe they just haven’t been taught about dressing for the occasion but at least they are loyally making a Holy Hour, and return my thoughts to prayer. (Battling my own unrelated distractions as well, but I digress.)

Praying from today’s Liturgy of the Hours, hopefully this psalm addresses our concerns as we present them to the Lord:

Psalm 134 (135)

Lord, your name is for ever;
Lord, your name will be remembered
by generation after generation.
For the Lord will give judgement for his people,
he will look with kindness upon his servants.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of the hands of men.
They have mouths but will not speak,
they have eyes and will not see.
They have ears and will not hear,
there is no breath in their mouths.
They will be like them, those who make them;
and all who put their trust in them.

House of Israel, bless the Lord;
house of Aaron, bless the Lord;
house of Levi, bless the Lord;
you who fear the Lord, bless the Lord.

Blessed be the Lord from Sion,
whose abode is Jerusalem.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Modesty especially in church is so important. My friend was so upset because of the way her daughter dressed to go to Mass. She spoke to a Priest about it and he said pray but at least she is at Mass. Now the girl dresses very well (time and age). I will keep this intention in my prayers for ALL those not dressed properly to be in the presence of God.

Nothing more distracting than the woman sitting in front of you, digging out her underwear or pulling up her bra straps and trying to get them not to show…

And I’m a woman!

I pray for modesty, not only in Church but in everyday life… Amen.

Why did she need to speak to the priest? As the girl’s mother, why didn’t she do something about it. Too many parents just allow their kids to dress anyway they want. We have Jr. Lectors who come dressed in short skirts and sleeveless tops. I have to now keep a sweater in the sacrsty for these girls to wear, or, if they have short skirts, to ask them not to read that week. The parents should have said something to the kids before they leave the house.

The Priest at my local church has put a comment in the news letter about the way people dress to go to church,and states that we should dress as though we are going for an interview for a job. After all we are visiting the house of the King of Kings. He also asked us to respect the dignity of the church and not gossip in the church before Mass.

Greetings You know I believe in modesty too. Some of the fashion attire is like sad. Modesty, and respect for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I’m a female whose 22 and I’d have to say dressing immodest in church is not appropriate. What ever happened to veils.

I mean even I dont see that any more.:confused: And I feel like I am called to a married vocation an I pray about it. See I have this new guy friend Jimmy and he is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. He and I talk about modesty in the church and he doesnt like the fact that there is immodesty in the parishes today. He is outraged by all this. He thinks its disgusting to see short shorts on in mass, or mini skirts that show your undies when in prayer. He told me I hate my generation they dont care about the importants of the Lord and how to dress right. I seen him how he dresses and he is modest. He listens to the word of God. We are not afraid to show what we believe in and he really is christian he even saw the pope at world youth day.

I asked him to pray for me he did. I think he is a really holy godly guy and you know something I actually have a crush on him lol I think he does on me too.😊 😊 :cool:
