We are not talking about 2,000 years ago. We are talking about the Vatican, and Church, today, 2013!

Yes, we are talking about the Vatican, today, 2013. But we aren’t talking about the Church. Sorry, the Church hasn’t indicated in any way that the dress code used for the Vatican is to be used for all parishes.

This is difficult. I live in Germany and when I first arrived form the USA I thought to myself “wow I’m in the land of the grown-ups” because adults dress appropriately for their age and station in life. Older people are respected and they wear clothes that give them respect. However, very few people go to Mass! It makes me more conscious that whatever they were wearing I would just like to see more people of all ages in church. When I was in the US the churches were bursting at the seams and where I lived the Catholic schools were oversubscribed.

If I were to chose I prefer a vibrant community who come to Mass than a well dressed one that never darker the doors of a church (or rarely).

Fatima IS an approved apparition.

I just think a LOT of people are going to be in for a big surprise to find that you can, and many will, go to hell for the way they dress, especially in church.

**Men on the forum. ** An honest answer!..Tell me that you are not more tempted by a woman in church, or anywhere else, who dresses in a plunging neckline, tight outfits, see-through clothing, microminiskirts, or any of the rest…that it makes you no bit of difference! (as opposed to someone who dresses extremely modestly)

I had a sacristan once, who admitted to me that, as a man, he didn’t think any of the teen guys would be able to concentrate well if there were a girl in the vicinity in tight jeans, say!

There is enough distractions to deal with without this one. I believe women who dress immodestly know exactly what they are doing. They enjoy the attention, I’m sure of it. When I see a modestly dressed women, I appreciate her choice. Truthfully, I treat them with a little more respect than the average encounter with other stranger’s.

I wonder what women expect from men when they dress scandalously? Are they content with being an object of lust? Learning self-discipline, and self-control both mentally and physically is rough on kids. It’s easy to dress properly and it helps your neighbor. Everyone wins.

I didn’t say it wasn’t but what you quoted was not part of the revelations which have been disclosed by the Church.

God is more concerned with what is in a person - his actions and words.

Check biographies and books on Fatima. It’s a pretty well-accepted quotation.
No it isn’t. Its just on a private Fatima website and has been circulated by people hoping if you say it often enough, it will be true.

That sacristan and everyone else at mass should be concentrating on Christ and the Mass.

Perhaps you should try to look at all people as persons and with respect.

Do you have a source for this claim? How do you know it isn’t an accepted quotation?

From fatima.org/crusader/truestory/pdf/tspg65.pdf (page 70):
“My dear Mother, the sins that bring most souls to Hell are the sins of the flesh.
Certain fashions are going to be introduced which will offend Our Lord very much.
Those who serve God should not follow these fashions. The Church has no fashions;
Our Lord is always the same.”

Information is given on fatima.org/crusader/truestory/pdf/tspg5.pdf , author is John de Marchi, I.M.C., imprimaturs 1947 and 2009, “taken directly from Lucia’s Memoirs and checked by her in person.”

I think it’s one thing, trying to look at everyone with respect. It’s another when women dress like prostitutes, even in Church and still act like it’s always 100% the man’s fault when he falls?

Women, realize that the reason prostitutes dress the way they do is because they find this works with men! If it didn’t, they wouldn’t bother! So, if a man falls due to our tempting him, we are at least partly, if not mostly, responsible for acting as a temptress!

That sacristan and everyone else at mass should be concentrating on Christ and the Mass.
That is irrelevant to a woman’s obligation to avoid scandal.

CCC 2284 Scandal is an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil. The person who gives scandal becomes his neighbor’s tempter. He damages virtue and integrity; he may even draw his brother into spiritual death. Scandal is a grave offense if by deed or omission another is deliberately led into a grave offense.

Yes…AND we women should also do our part and NOT deliberately tempt men by dressing immodestly and inappropriately, in church, and out!

In his own defense, at the time he made that statement, there** wasn’t** anybody around that fit that description. He was only making a general comment, that he thought women could do a lot to help men, especially young ones, from sinning, and I agree!

Just look on the forum, week after week, how many men STRUGGLE with issues of purity, go to confession, go to great means not to fall only to have many women dress in ways that are clearly NOT helping!

I have never seen a women at Mass dressing like a prostitute.

This is what I think of when someone says “dressing like a prostitute.” I can honestly say that I have never seen a women with clothes similar to this at Mass.
I saw your link, and I HAVE!
