Yes, every chapter (Sura) has got the notation whethe rit was revealed in Makkah or Madinah. It always shows that at the head and also tell how many verses are in the chapter. Every knows about it. Even you can know it. It is indicated in the Quran.

KathleenGee, They are non-violent for any peaceful person of any faith. They may be violent for the violent type of enemy people who may be bent upon war against God and the prophet. There is no violence agianst any peaceful peson, any non-believer.

There is no verse that Muslims do not know about. The Quran is with us for the last 1400 years. There is no undue hardship verses. Of course some of the Jihadi type Muslims are interpretting the verses wrongly. I can contest them on any paltform and prove that they re wrong.

The religion is not to be spread by sword. It was never spread by sword. There is no compulsion in any religion, in the matters of faith. Every one should be free to believe what they like. That is the very basic principle of Islam which most of the muslims are forgetting now.

Historically all areas currently majority Muslim except parts of Malaya and the swahili coast became muslim via conquest. Arabia itself became muslim via the sword under Muhammad. the Maghreb, Persia, india, muslim europe and the middle east, Egypt, Sudan, Central Asia, Uighurstan and West africa were all conquered for Islam. This allowed for the forcible conversion of those classed as Kaffirs (like in formerly buddhist Afghanistan and Pakistan) or the slow converstion due to Jizya, persecution and discrimination as in Persia and elsewhere.

Use your logic on this one: If India was forcefully converted to the Islam, why are there still Hindus and Buddhists in India to this very day? Do you suppose they just moved out as soon as the Islam came along and then after a while they moved back in?
You claim that Muslim Europe is also conquered by the sword, but may I remind you that if there was a certain war going on between the Islam and the outside world, we would probably have heard about it. Yet, we have not, the Islam is still the fastest growing religion in this world to this very day.
Now giving a more personal explanation, I do not remember any Muslim threatening me with a sword forcing me to convert.

As a closing statement I would like to state that: if I understand it all correctly (referring back to previous posts as well), you all do not mind the Christian faith being spread via the sword but if another faith which is currently overtaking Christianity does the same (which I already disagreed with btw), it is oh so evil and they’re lead by an evil warlord who orders genocides and such.

The crusades were a response to centuries of unprovoked muslim aggression against christians. Notably as is shown in the previous posts, The church of the holy sepulchre (church of the resurrection) the holiest site in christendom was destroyed and desecrated by muslims. Consider the response chistians destroying the kaaba and the masjid- al-haram would have today.

Now taking into account that and other aggression, and the fact that the crusade was preached as a call to aid the byzantine empire which asked the west for help against muslim attack, and it is obvious that the crusades are a response, instead of being spontaneous. The areas targetted were also at that time still mostly christian and were historically christian in the first place.

The muslim attacks on the othe hand targetted areas that were never muslim and were never aggresively invasive to the original muslim areas in the first place. Equating the arab empire (ruled by the Caliph of Islam) which was effectively THE islamic state as seperate to Islam at that time is simply untrue. The arab conquests were the conquests of Islam and vice versa.

I came back to look at this discussion and felt a need to rebutt a few erroneous statements.

You sanreal know that there is no such concept as separation of religion and secular law in Islam. An Islamic country is 100% Muslim in both its secular activities and its religious activities. So you can’t claim that these invading Muslim powers were not conquering for their religion. This is the problem with Islam. It legitimises all actions and most every human atrocity or harm committed against non-Muslim or “unbelievers” in the name of Religion since Mohammad taught that Allah intends to beguile, torture and punish them all.

You found a very few quotes from the Surahs but this is the problem. The actual Qur’an has hundreds more verses that condemn and will not tolerate Christians and other unbelievers. Further, the Qur’an is poorly written with free form verse absent any chronology or context, uses many obscure Arabic words not known to even many Arabs (and is clearly not of Divine Origin to be so confusing and contradictory) that mere fallable and mortal men must interpret it via the histories and the legends contained in the Surahs and other histories and legends. As well, NOTHING is absolute in Islam. Mohammad taught that anything could be changed to remove old verses and replace them with new ones at his convenience – just as he permitted Pagan worship at one time in the embarrassing “Satanic Verses”. And so Muslim clerics have reinterpreting verses according to novel new interpretations to suit their own agendas.

Here let me give you some more of “Islamic teachings” that directly contradict what you just quoted:

This mocks history or is intended to be clever with words. Indeed, Christianity can thank “the sword” of its OPPRESSORS for making Christianity a major religion since it was by evil men who used THEIR sword AGAINST peaceful Christians that created the martyers who inspired others to see that Christians were loving, peaceful, and not like their persecuters. Pagans converted to Christianity after witnessing many unarmed Christian missionaries and teachers be killed rather than renounce their faith. Roman solders sent to murder Christians would sometimes marvel over the serenity of Christians and their lack of fear of death or any aggression and come to convert to Christianity. That said, there were certainly some powerful kings of Europe who may have called themselves Christian who did not live up to the name and personally did unjust things against Christians, pagans and Muslims to further their own desires and lusts for power.

This is infantile logic. Perhaps you do not really believe in Jesus as a prophet (and more) as you say you do? Have you not heard the TRUTH that the times of Moses were over long ago and God made a new Covenant of peace for the ALL THE WORLD through Jesus. This verse has a history. It was a challenge to the delegation of christians from Najran who had come to Madinah and they were insisting on the divinity of Jesus, the prophet was told by Allah to throw a challenge to them to come out in the field and invoke the curse of Allah on the liars.
It did not invoke curse on the christians. It invoked curse on the Liars. That could be the Muslims or the christians. But the christians withdrew from that challenge and did not dare come out in the field to face the challenge. They did not dare to come and support the truth.

Qur’an 98:1 “Those among the People of the Book, who disbelieve and are idolaters [making Christians and Jews pagans], would never have been freed from their false religion if the Clear Proofs had not come to them. An Apostle of Allah came reading out of hallowed pages, containing firm decrees… They were commanded to serve Allah exclusively, fulfilling their devotional obligations, and paying the zakat. Surely the unbelievers and idolaters from the People of the Book will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures.”

Qur’an 5:72 “They are surely* infidels who blaspheme and say: ‘God is Christ, the Messiah, the son of Mary.’ But the Messiah only said: ‘O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’”

With the above 5:72 teaching, the word “Christian” must now be substituted for “infidel” and “disbeliever” in every verse commanding Muslims to fight, kill, terrorize, plunder, or enslave. “Must” because of Qur’anic abrogation. Qur’an 2:106 proclaims: “Whenever We cancel a verse or throw it into oblivion, We bring one which is better.” The 5th surah was the last handed down and thus its commands and definitions abrogate all others. Thus all “True” Muslims must now kill Christians or they will be punished as disobedient and cursed Muslims who deserve the same fate for being friends with unbelievers…

I’ll stop here since the 5th surah is so repugnant it makes me ill reading its vile lies and contempt for Christians and Jews.
