Momentary vision as answer to prayer?

I am not sure if this is the correct place to be posting on this subject but…I am not one who expects visions and sweeping miracles which knock me off my feet during prayer. I truly believe the Lord works within our everyday “hum-drum” lives to perform the miraculous. I want the opinion of the balanced populace on this forum to help me with this though:

I was having an exceptionally stressful and depressed day awhile back, the next morning I decided to go to 7:00 weekday Mass. Before Mass I went to pray in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. I have always asked the Lord for some sign as I am sure most of us have at some point in our lives. It is not that I am of that weak of faith however you all know what type of things go through one’s mind when you are deep in the dumps. I prayed in front of the Monstrance for about an hour, right before I rose to go to Mass I closed my eyes one final time and saw clearly Christ on the Cross. What a feeling of peace!
I know some my find this unbelievable but there it was. I knelt there with my eyes closed for some time before it went away not really knowing what to think. I know some may say …well you were staring at the monstrance for some time and when you stare at an object for awhile it can imprint in your vision when you close your eyes. This was definitely not the same thing. Any observations, or anything would be helpful. It this simply a sign of comfort for me or should I be making more of it. I plan on mentioning this the next time I go to confession. Thank you.

Well balanced or not here I go! How blessed you are! Jesus can and does touch us at different times and in different ways. One of my customers, now deceased, saw Jesus on the Cross in the Host at Adoration. God knew what you needed and provided it for you, consider yourself blessed. God BLess you.

Knowing you believe in the real presence in the Eucharist, it sounds as though He was revealing Himself to you there. For a while I struggled with belief in the real presence and always prayed “I believe, help my unbelief” and was reassured in a way at adoration to strengthen my belief. Still I can believe what I saw or write it off as reflections of light playing tricks on me, but I choose to believe I saw the Lords image in the Eucharist for my first hour of adoration ever. Uneffected at the time, I kept asking my self, why would someone etch Jesus on the glass in the monstrance or is it frosted. It wasn’t until months later on my second adoration, I noticed the glass was clear and I realized what I saw the first time was a subtle gift of reassurance. Your gift was meant for you , but share it as the Spirit moves you to when the opportunity arise’s. Tim

I believe this was real. I believe that Jesus was showing you his cross to help you carry yours. I think it was a simple as that. Nothing more to read into it. We all have our crosses to bear.

You should thank Jesus for the message and thank Him for listening to you. How wonderful it must be to know that He is listening to you! Praised be Jesus Christ.

Hey, the next time you see him will you ask him if I can win the lottery? Just kidding.

I had a similar experience once. At mass during the consecration. The priest held up the host, and I was looking up at it, when suddenly my eyes started to burn, and I started to tear. So I closed my eyes tightly, and saw the face of Jesus, nodding foward wearing the crown of thorns, with blood and tears streaming down his face. I could tell that this wasnt just a thought that popped into my head, its hard to explain, but sometimes you can tell what thought comes from you what thoughts dont. I too have prayed for a sign at times, not because of a crisis of faith, but because sometimes we all need a little something that can motivate us into getting more energized when practicing our faith.

Does it really matter if such a thing came from your thoughts or not? The Holy Spirit lives inside each of us, is it not possible that the Holy Spirit can contribute to our thoughts?

I think that even if this is something that came from your thoughts, the thought was still given to you by God. Evil does not give anyone such wonderful visions or ideas.

I think you should rejoice in this image and thank God for however it came to you be it ‘direct’ intervention or ‘indirect’ intervention. That is what you needed at the time and it was given to you. I am glad for this fact and I find comfort in it.

Don’t question it, just accept it for what it is. A wonderful and beautiful thought. And praise God for whatever way it came to you.
