Hello-

I am 34 years old and a mother of 2 awesome boys. (age 7 and 4). We are having a “baby boom” in our chruch it seems. NOW I WANT ANOTHER BABY!!! Is it dangerous to get pregnant at this age? Is my clock ticking? Are these feelings normal? I have had 2 cesareans. Can you have 3?

Help!!

Am I loosing my mind?

Jill

Why would 34 be too old? I always like to think that God gave us menopause to let us know when we are too old. With regards to the C-sections, you would need to talk with your doctor about that, but I do know plenty of people that have had* at least* 3 C’s (including family members). That being said, each woman is different, so you can ask your dr. about the state of your uterus.

Lol, no, you are not losing your mind! 🙂 It sounds like you are in a loving marriage (from other posts); it is healthy and good to want to receive another blessing.

Of course it’s normal to want more children. As we age, there is a slightly higher incidence of chromosomal abnormalities, complications, miscarriage, infertility, etc. but by far, most pregnancies still go well. I think you are considered “advanced maternal age” if the baby will be born when you are 35 or older, and “very advanced maternal age” is over 40. These pregnancies need a little more monitoring, but the majority still turn out a healthy baby. Many women have multiple Cesareans. Has your doctor indicated that you are a poor candidate for further pregnancies? If you and your husband want more children, I don’t see any reason why you can’t. No one knows exactly when they will enter menopause, so all of our clocks are ticking. You may have five more years of fertility, or 15! Best of luck!

I am 34 years old and am currently in early labor! This is my fourth full-term pregnancy.
No, 34 is NOT too old, and my husband and I hope we might have one or two more children before age 40, when I feel the risks grow too great for my comfort.
My only concern for your situation is the two Caesarians. Is a vba2c possible in your situation? Have your scars, external and internal, healed completely and with no adhesions? These would be questions for you to discuss with your OB. I know of some women, one who is a friend of mine, who had vaginal deliveries after a long enough period of time where they healed enough to not need another surgery. I know of other women who had multiple C-sections.
So that would be the thing o investigate and consider, more than your age. If your husband and doctors have no objections then go for it! 🙂

Ask your doctor about health concerns. Yes, it is normal when your youngest becomes a kid instead of a toddler to start wanting another child, but it’s just a built-in biological reaction. It’s also about to be spring, days getting longer, also can trigger this response. Check with husband. Then doctor. Then wait until September and see how you feel.

Why would she have to wait until Sept? As Catholics we should always be open to receiving blessings, and only avoid if we discern we have just/serious/unselfish reasons to avoid… Why would anyone need to avoid simply because it is spring?

34 is not to old. One of my grandmothers and one of my great-grandmothers were 41 when their youngest were born and my mother was three months short of her 40th birthday when she had me.😃

Hi Jill,

From a Dad’s recent experience: I am 37 years old and my wife is 38 years old and we just brought a beautiful little healthy daughter into the world on November 24, 2012. I am not sure what you mean by dangerous - dangerous to your health or the baby’s? Or do you mean is there an increased risk of birth defects?

May God bless you and guide you in this decision.

No, 34 is NOT too old,
Don’t you need to get to the hospital, boil water or something?

I have a late life child. I was 45 and my wife 40. I find it easier to parent as I get older. Even now in my fifties, I would not mind having another child, but I will settle for grandhildren (one so far).

Birth Defects, I guess. I know that sounds self fish. I am sorry.

I believe the increased chance for birth defects starts at 35 and increases each year thereafter. But i would definitely speak with your OB/GYN about those concerns…God bless you!

Hi! 🙂

We cannot give health/medical advice here, as it is against forum rules. I would talk to your doctor about possible risk factors, if any.

Good luck to you!

So are you against NFP?

If you were 44 I might say the risk is high but at 34 you should be ok.

I just had my third c-section and my doctor said he thinks I should be okay for two more and he’d reevaluate as we went along. Most people I know who weren’t okay for more were told so by their doctor after their last c-section, with comments like: “Your uterus had windows, so you probably shouldn’t have another.” but if you’re wondering you can always ask! The only advice my doctor gave me was to make sure I have 12 months between pregnancies for my uterus to heal.

And I figure the baby “itch” is totally natural! I have it pretty much always. 🙂

Lol! Soon, I hope. I am still waiting for active labor to kick in. The contractions just won’t get coordinated enough yet.
