Which words of Christ? Christ had unkind things to say about second marriages, never mind the unnatural and sinful coupling of woman and woman. Are you talking about loving your neighbor? Because love is not giving approval to whatever a person wants to do. Love does not cooperate with sin, any more than your love for a child leads you to give him cookies with allergens in them because the child wants them so much.

I don’t know which is worse: National tragedy or this one?

But…

At least your mom is still around

This thread is getting pretty popular or whatever.

Any time a person turns away from God and refuses to obey his teachings they move from life to death. How can anyone deny we are well into a “culture of death” at this moment in time. A celebration of sin is a symptom and consequence of this culture. Jesus continually tells us that He is the way, truth, and life.
People who live in sin, grave sin day in and out, badly need saving. It will inevitably lead to spiritual collapse and death.

Do not go if you do not feel comfortable. Perhaps during the gathering, you can go to Mass or pray for your mother instead.

Obey the law of God above the short-term guilt you may feel over your decision.

And it goes both ways - to be blunt, your mother did not factor your feeling or faith into her decision. So she is the one who put you in this uncomfortable position, but you do not have an obligation to attend.

34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. 37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

I wondered how many years of purgatory I got from reading this thread?

Curious why people who are not Catholic insist on telling Catholics on this forum that they are wrong in their beliefs? Something’s eating them.

To be honest, as a Catholic who experiences SSA, I understand both sides of the argument. I know what it feels like to hear some Christians call people like myself savage animals, or children of God. What I learned from my experience though, is that the Catholic Church and Christ care about people like me. They want me to live a life in Christ’s will. Part of that is sacrifice. Sacrifice is seen in the Gospel. Jesus says to pick us our crosses, he knows it’s painful, he knows that it may even break up our families (yes it is in the Gospel). But hatred my friends, hating the person does not get anyone anywhere.

Sin should not be celebrated. But hating the person is not good either. In the end the OP should stick with his morals, seek advice from a Priest, and show a type of love which often doesn’t include supporting a sinful lifestyle.

Anyone have a problem with that?

Little Flower, it is you who keep sacrimoniously telling people on this thread how sorry you are for us and how you will pray for us. Are you aware of how this comes across?

Because some, not all, of the Catholics on this forum believe that everyone should believe like they do. Then, especially when it comes to homosexuality, they condemn people who are different from them. That is why. Once again, one group of people upset and nasty (even referring to fellow Catholics as a cancer) because another group of people use their body parts in a way they don’t like. Who has the problem here, hmmmm…

And the Catholic answer is simply that there is no absolute canonical prohibition against attending no matter what other views are offered by laity on CAF or clergy.

Sorry for the treatment and hate you have to read. Sorry that people use the words sodomites, and cancer. Not sorry for your cross or your existence. There is a difference. I have friends who bear that cross, and I journey with them. I don’t call them sodomites or tell them that they are a cancer to the Church.

I don’t come here to set anybody anywhere. When I am here, though, and I see wrong I do what I can to correct it. And that means calling out bad behavior. Which is what I have done here.

Thanks for being reasonable and well articulated. 🌷 I agree with what you have written fully.

Easiest thing in the world to be holier than thou when you yourself have no religion. You don’t merely call out bad behavior at all, you argue against Church teaching. You must be conflicted to hang out on a Catholic forum on a Friday night.
