This will get lost in the shuffle.

My take on this is to go. It’s showing your love for her. Make it clear that is the ONLY reason you are going. And make it clear you don’t accept union between two same sex people. All your doing is showing love and charity for your Mom.

You have friends that drug and smoke don’t you? Do you do what they do? Plus, we are disciples of Christ. By our example we have come to show people that do wrong and don’t know Christ that they are loved despite their sins. Plus, are we better than they are? No, we aren’t perfect creatures. Plus, God is the ultimate judge. Let Him handle their sins.

Do you think God doesn’t love them despite what they do? He loves them more and shows His mercy more on those who are deep into grave sins. His mercy endures forever.

God knows your heart. He is not going to fault you for that.

She is your Mom. Love her unconditionally. Sometimes I think we are too strict in getting caught up with what “WE” would do and not be more like Christ. Jesus preached love through His time on earth. Show compassion.

One time I had a hardcore Atheist tell me that she hated Christians because they were always looking at her like she was Satan and not human. She also bristled when she heard I was Christian and Roman Catholic to boot. But by my love and what I thought Jesus wanted me to do I did not condemn her. I never spoke a harsh word to her and said it was backed up by the Catholic faith. Through me, I was showing Christ’s love for her and never stopped. Until one day, she told me she never had how I was treating her from other Christians. She softened towards me and finally and this brings me to tears she wanted to know more about Jesus and the angels. Oh, she was from the UK. I’m from Texas. 🙂

I am an individual that is considered a free thinker, although I obey God, ten commandments and love being Catholic. If some of you don’t agree with me, it’s okay. It’s taken a hard road for me to get to where I am. And to God, I give all the glory! Forever.

Love y’all.

Because some people choose to jump to conclusions or some people choose to accept ridiculous ideas does not mean we ars somehow bound to act in a way that satisfies those people. We are called to be radically different in our love. To do good to sinners, to love our enemies.

Did Jesus go into the adulterer’s bedroom and watch them commit adultery?
Unless the OP’s mom is part of a Royal Court of 300 years ago, the wedding party is not required to go into the bedchamber and witness anything.
Did he attend a gay “marriage” and smile and act happy lest he offend the couple?
Christ did not because such a thing was not part of the culture in 1st Century Palestine.

What Christ did do was eat (in that culture, eating was not what it is now, it was about acceptance and love and celebration, to sit at someone’s table was to bring them great honor.) and drink with sinners, tax collectors and prostitutes. Those were the pariah of that place and time.

It is difficult to understand history, to peel off our 2018 goggles and see that a tax collector in the Jewish community of that time was not your professional CPA who is also a Knight of Columbus, he was despised, shut out, treated as a pariah.

Jesus went and honored that tax collector by sitting at his table. Because Christ treated this sinner with love, met the tax collectors (Christ did this more than once), those people had open hearts to hear the Gospel and to repent.

Some folks here go to some very interesting weddings!

I go to a wedding because I love the people.

I’ve never seen one of these “wedding message cakes”. I eat cake because it is tasty, unless it has nuts or coconut because those are not tasty.

I buy a gift because out of an abundant heart we give gifts to each other.

Nothing more, nothing less.

And if my son were tried and convicted and had one more day to go before he entered prison I would throw him the biggest party that this town has seen, it would be all of the Birthdays and Christmases that we will not be together. And we would serve message free cake.

Not going for the wedding doesn’t mean you don’t love your mother but rather you are concerned for her soul which is much more important ,talk to her on the phone may be she’s change her mind for the good Luke 1:37

Love with discernment,or love without obligations Philippians 1:9 And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight

Romans 1:24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. 29 They were filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious toward parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 They know God’s decree, that those who practice such things deserve to die—yet they not only do them but even applaud others who practice them.

The event itself-entering into a gay “marriage”- is a commitment to a lifetime of sin. You are literally saying Jesus would witness a person’s commitment to their personal sin and be happy. No just…no.

Hmm. I wonder if there was any point to this thread.

Charity without truth mean nothing.

We don’t attend a wedding by charity, but to celebrate and “bless” (to say some good). And if it is against our conscience it is best to avoid;

No. And to say such a thing about Jesus Christ woud impugn His absolute holiness. No amount of distortion of Holy Scripture can support that Jesus would ever condone such wickedness–or any other mortal sin, sexual or otherwise.

Quote red letter words to that effect.
Not Paul. Not tradition. Not Canon.

This is a Roman Catholic forum. Roman Catholics do not subscribe to Sola Scriptura. It would be blasphemous to say that Christ would enable any mortal sin.
'Nuff said.

You claimed Jesus said certain things. Afaik he didn’t.
When I asked you to back up your claim you pulled the ”This is a RC form”-card, which isn’t a very effective debate point. I would call it sulky, if it hadn’t made me laugh.

If you want to be anti-gay, that’s up to you. But please keep your sources clear. Thank you.
