“You claimed Jesus said certain things.”
Nope…

Love how non-Catholics enjoy coming to this Catholic forum and telling us all about how wrong we are to believe in Catholic teaching. What poppycock.

Well, the heterodox mainline churches are clearing out so fast maybe there’s no one left to talk to…

philosopher6’s comment was addressed to the thread in general and not to any particular poster.

Well, the heterodox mainline churches are clearing out so fast maybe there’s no one left to talk to…
“Let’s make concessions to the World, they will leave us alone and people won’t leave the churches” they said…
We can see now how it worked out for mainline Protestants

Quote red letter words to that effect.
Not Paul. Not tradition. Not Canon.
I love that argument. It’s clear that secular humanists and their fake hippie “it’s all good, bro” Jesus have more authority than Saint Paul, the Church and it’s two thousand years Tradition…

If Jesus didn’t explicitly forbid x, y, or z, then obviously he would approve of x, y, or z. Right. Nothing wrong with that logic.

Can we extrapolate that making those kinds of concessions would have a low probability of working out for the RCC as well?

It is the “no true Scotsman” fallacy. When people cannot, for example, cite their sources, they often resort to this.

Sinners have been having weddings since the beginning of time. Christ spoke about invalid marriages. In that statement, make note He did not say “and you shall not attend such weddings!!”. He could have said that.

Instead, He sat down and ate and drank with prostitutes and tax collectors (the vilest public sinners in that time). The way He loved these people caused the people to WANT to walk away from sin and follow Him.

The Church could also issue a directive, a doctrine, and She has not. Instead she says we are to avoid all unjust discrimination of those who are gay.

I wonder if those who are so over the top in their condenmatation screen all wedding invites for sin. Do you make sure that the couple is not using/planning to use birth control before you go to the wedding? Do you make sure they are not going to miss Mass on Sunday? Do you screen the shower gifts to make sure they do not own any sex toys? Or is it ONLY homosexuals who deserve this sort of investigation?

Lol there isn’t an investigation in the case of homosexual couples because they are OPENLY practicing and plan on it their entire life-hence the gay “wedding”. No investigation needed. They did the work by sending an invite.

If your friend told you she is has an IUD, and she does not plan to remove it because she wants to be able to afford a big house after marriage instead of having kids, would you go to her wedding?

ETA: She is so convinced about Kid Free IUD that she has written an article on her Blog about it.

No, but I’m very picky about my friends so if someone I was friends with talked to me-a known Catholic-about their ABC, I think I’d not go because it would’ve changed my view of her. Also, “don’t ask, don’t tell.” I’ve talked to a Baptist coworker of mine who was engaged and was considering getting an IUD, so…I WILL tell an aquaintance what I think of that, let alone a friend.

I don’t think this thread is useful. It is the same arguments over and over and over. And someone obviously keeps flagging posts to make it shut down, reopen, shut down, reopen etc. Best if it dies a natural death, IMO.
I don’t think the OP is a troll. Whether to attend one’s mother’s lesbian wedding is a question indeed. I thank God I have not been confronted with such a situation, especially when I was young and unsure what to do. It appears that Catholics can legitimately disagree on this matter and that’s ok. I do think, as illustrated here, some non-Catholic posters like to swoop in to set Catholics “right” about their beliefs. This happens in a number of threads and I take exception to it. It is one thing to want to pose questions, argue civilly, and learn. This forum welcomes people of all faiths and no faiths to do just that. It is quite another to insist dogmatically that Catholics are wrong. I can’t help thinking such folks either 1) have no friends and nothing better to do; 2) are angry at Catholicism because they are just on the verge of being pushed by the Holy Spirit into it. You know–the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference.

The thread is going to close on its own soon anyway. Maybe we can make it to 400? 😂
Unfortunately, the trolling posts from non-Catholic or imposter posters will continue on other threads. Appreciate your vigilance!

What is the actual argument here people. We all know Homosexual acts are sinful, and we know SSA is not sinful. The question as to whether a person can go to a Lesbian wedding should be brought up with one’s priest. I’m sure there is no definitive teaching on one attending that kind of wedding, unless of course there is?

Below IS the definitive teaching. Bold mine, apparently some folks find it optional as well.

Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

That’s already been posted. No one here–not professed Catholics anyway–has said they disagree with it.
