They have not. My original assumption is that the priest spoke correctly. I have spoken with a Canon lawyer in my diocese, and he seems to think that my mother’s fiance does need an annulment.

Please pray for my mother, myself and the rest of my family. This is a truly trying situation and very difficult for me.
