Moms, when are you getting in your prayer time?

I’m struggling to find focus. I currently set aside time every night for prayer time, but lately its been a struggle… at night I do my daily rosary but I’m drained to do much more than that.

I enforce quiet time in my house between 1-3 but its still not without its own distractions… I understand its valid prayer time even with interruptions.

So I guess I am just curious what moms are doing to get their daily time in… and WHAT they are doing… I’m not struggling to fit prayer in, but I’m having trouble keeping my focus so I was hoping maybe I could get some ideas from others.

Thanks!

My children are all grown and moved away except our 40 yr old dtr that lives with us. I thank God for her daily. God knew we would need her in our old age

Anyway, I am a night owl so my prayer time is usually around 12:30am and some times I am so tired and exhausted I really want to make the prayer time shorter. But I shut the bed room door and say my prayers with a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a picture of our Lady of Fatima and a small statue of the Infant of Prague on my night stand and a blessed candle and a couple of votives. I just look at those images and take a few deep breaths and quietly pray for between 30-45 minutes. That refreshes me so much. But I do cry a lot for the three of my children who have left the church. I then read the bible while I am lying down in bed and then sometimes fall asleep praying the rosary.

I know when you still have little ones around it is hard to find quiet prayer time. Do you pray while driving or taking a walk? That helps me sometimes.
God bless you. What ever prayer time you have, even with distractions and interruptions, it is a good thing and God appreciates the time you give Him.

When my kids were small it was very hard as you describe. I have found that even though I’m NOT a morning person I have begun to love the time before everyone gets up. It’s pretty early to be sure but well worth it once you get in the routine. Good luck!

Keeping focus is always the hard part. I distinctively recall saying just last night, “Lord, my prayers have been suffering. Please help me to focus!” …The next thing I remember is waking up at 2 in the morning to move from the couch where I was sitting to the bed. 🤷 Oh well… 🙂

In all truthfulness, I found my prayers were often broken into snippets throughout the day which left me feeling so disjointed and separated from God. I have found that we are able to turn our tasks and duties (interruptions too!) into prayer, and that has helped me a ton. I try to converse with God in my head all throughout my day. Things like, “Lord, thank you for making me the mom. Help me praise you with…” and then fill in the blank. Equally as often (if not more so…) I will say to mother Mary, “Holy Mary, PLEASE pray for me that I be as gentle and loving as you without going absolutely insane. Amen.” 😃

This is what I do.

I have a 15 month old and I’m pregnant with number 2. My parish gave out CDs for Christmas that have parishioners and clergy saying the entire rosary. It plays while I’m driving.
I say decades while I take my daughter for a walk and decades while I’m in the shower.

Hubby and I make it a point to read scripture every night after our daughter goes to bed. He goes to bed early and I’m usually up by myself winding down or catching up with last minute chores before bed.
I do try to take that quiet time and seriously concentrate on meditating each mystery of the rosary. I have a website I consult that goes into detail with each mystery.

I’m not perfect at it by any means but I do try. I also try to send up little prayers of thanksgiving and prayers asking Jesus to help me with my Cross throughout the day.

The way I think of it…whatever you can do helps. Even saying a quick Hail Mary, Our Father or a Glory Be…all helps us out.

God’s Spirit is in my heart,
He has called me and set me apart.
This is what I have to do,
what I have to do.

He sent me to give the Good News to the poor,
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more,
Tell blind people that they can see,
And set the downtrodden free
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come,
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come.

Just as the Father sent me,
So I’m sending you out to be
My witnesses throughout the world,
The whole of the world.

Don’t worry what you have to say,
Don’t worry because on that day
God’s Spirit will speak in your heart,
Will speak in your heart.

I pray and sing in between (Jesus Scriptures)
