**** Mon Mass readings / commentary (Assyrian attacks Samaria & Israel cuz they sinned / Jesus says, “you of hypocrites”) ****
Reading 1
2 Kgs 17:5-8, 13-15a, 18
***Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, occupied the whole land
and attacked Samaria, which he besieged for three years.
In the ninth year of Hoshea, king of Israel
the king of Assyria took Samaria,
and deported the children of Israel to Assyria,
setting them in Halah, at the Habor, a river of Gozan,
and the cities of the Medes.
This came about because the children of Israel sinned against the LORD,***
their God, who had brought them up from the land of Egypt,
from under the domination of Pharaoh, king of Egypt,
and because they venerated other gods.
They followed the rites of the nations
whom the Lord had cleared out of the way of the children of Israel
and the kings of Israel whom they set up.
And though the LORD warned Israel and Judah
by every prophet and seer,
“Give up your evil ways and keep my commandments and statutes,
in accordance with the entire law which I enjoined on your fathers
and which I sent you by my servants the prophets,”
they did not listen, but were as stiff-necked as their fathers,
who had not believed in the LORD, their God.
They rejected his statutes,
the covenant which he had made with their fathers,
and the warnings which he had given them, till,
in his great anger against Israel,
the LORD put them away out of his sight.
Only the tribe of Judah was left.

O God, you have rejected us and broken our defenses;

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Stop judging, that you may not be judged.
For as you judge, so will you be judged,
and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’
while the wooden beam is in your eye?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”

***So again we see that God punishes sin with evil.
Is it that hard to obey God’s laws? Hmm… i can see where it would be hard if you were ignorant… of those laws… but the Isrealites were hardly ignorant… They were God’s chosen people… Now the Catholics** are God’s chosen people (ok,that sounds arrogant… .but the truth doesn’t always sound so good to… prejudiced ears…). And now the Catholics are being punished… As some saint said the Church is punished through having bad pastors… Yes, that’s a serious punishment…
but what did I personally do to deserve… well, whatever… I guess even the true Catholics have to be punished along with the cafeteria ones… se la vie…
anyhow… Jesus is SO politically incorrect and SO “rude” in this Gospel reading…
to call people hypocrites… The nerve of that guy… 
I think its hilarious myself…
so what does he mean by “judging”?
i don’t think he is saying we should … .well, say… take homosexuals… we should just ignore what they are doing and “love” them by… .not saying anything against their lifestyle… We don’t need THAT kind of non-judmentalism… That is a form of LYING… and liars end up in Hell (Revelation…). No, Jesus doesn’t mean we should just let things go and be all gushy and friendly with just anyone… ignoring the elephant in the “living room” of life…
He just means that we shouldn’t … well, for one thing, focus on others’ sins to the exlusion of our own… He does seem to imply that there could come a time when we have so thoroughly cleansed our eyes of that huge “beam” that we could actually be of some use in helping others to remove their “splinters”… so its not like he’s saying we can never be in a place to… help others stop sinning…
anyhow… i think the word Judgmental is used entirley too much @ CAF… usually when someone has no real argument …
