What do you all think about a Catholic being a monarchist today, in this day and age? Does the Church say anything on that? thanks šŸ™‚

Everything wrong with morality today is brought about by Democracy. Everything wrong about the world economy today is brought about by Capitalism.
 
It is fine if you want to be a monarchist, according to the Church. This is pretty complex. Papal comments about monarchy, particular monarchs, and also about democracy and ā€œchurch and stateā€ have to be read in context, always (they were responses to particular situations). Especially comments regarding the Syllabus of Errors, etc.

Oooohā€¦ with respect, I think this is a pretty big overstatement. Monarchs have caused massive damage, too (look at Henry VIII).

I think itā€™s actually sin that causes all the problems. šŸ˜‰
 
Why not? And have the Pope himself offer the coronation mass!
 
Iā€™m personally a monarchist, although I believe in local democracy (no, itā€™s not a contradiction, check St. Thomas Aquinas).

I know. But with monarchs if you have a benevolent one then you live in a good society. If you have a bad one, then you live in an earthly hell. With democracy, it seems that even if more of society are good people, if the few bad ones have the resources then they get what they want. Iā€™m just comparing Holy Emperors of the Roman and Byzantine Empires here with what we have today. Just look at abortion and gay marriage. Most people donā€™t agree with it but the few who do have the power and control over the influence of society (such as media and politics) that they get what they want.
 
Nothing wrong with monarchism! If youā€™re proud of your country, you should be more proud in your Monarch, in my case, the wonderful Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, along with all the other commonwealth realms!

Well, many in Canada really donā€™t care about the Queen anymore. They say the survival of the monarchy in Canada will depend on who the next monarch is. Prince Charles would probably move Canadians to get rid of the monarchy, while Will and Kate would probably make Canadians accept the monarchy for a while longer.

I understandā€¦ I actually donā€™t have a very strong opinion on this one way or another. Too bad we canā€™t just always have a ā€œsaint-kingā€ (better than a philosopher-king). šŸ˜‰
 
I am also a monarchist. I would have been right with Alexander Hamilton when he proposed making George Washington king of the United States.
I think monarchy is so attractive to Catholics because it is the closest form of government to the Kingdom of Heaven.
I mean after all, no one is going to vote God the Father out of office. Right?
 
Donā€™t forget that God told the Hebrews in the OT that they were nuts in asking for a king!

That doesnā€™t mean monarchy is good or bad according to the Church today, though.
 
The Church has publicly supported a Catholic monarchy before, along with a Christian Democracy.

But generally speaking, a democracy is more consistent, while a monarchy is inconsistent. Meaning with a monarchy, life is great or horrible, depending on the king (which is why the Church supports a CATHOLIC monarch ;)), and with a democracy, life is more consistent, without the highs and lows.

Itā€™s a shame for the lack of care Canadians show for the Head of Stateā€¦if they know sheā€™s the Head of State.

I hate to talk of the death of our good and excellent Queen, but I do say that when the Duke of Cambridge ascends to the throne, the monarchy will definitely receive a wave of support!

The thing is with absolute monarchs (or dictators for that matter), youā€™re left to the whims of fate as to whether you get a benevolent one or a not-so-benevolent one.

Constitutional monarch (as in the UK, Canada, etc.) is better. A balance of powers helps avoid abuses.

But regardless of forms of government, weā€™ll never be free from sin, the root of all evil. At least not on this mortal coil.
