Money root of all evil, false?

Money is the root of all evil, but why Cain get evil, I guess money is not invented that time.

Actually what Paul tells Timothy is that the *love of money *is the root of all evils (1 Tim6:10). This makes quite a difference as Paul reminds Timothy not to seek material gain as the ultimate end, which applies to everyone regardless of whether or not they have currency.
 
Yes, “love of money” is the root of all evil, not the money itself. I think it’s the love of wealth, fame, being loved, love for attention, etc, which is the root of all evil.

I think Cain craved for love, appreciation, & attention that Abel has, which were given by God.

If Cain struggle to defeat or let go of his envy, I’m sure God will love him in His way as much as Abel, even more perhaps.
 
Actually, it is the *lack *of money that is the root of all evil. 😉

I have found in my life that a lack of money is not the root of all evil. People who deny money to others so as to accumulate more wealth are the much more evil. No where in the Seven Deadly Sins, do I see a lack of wealth as an evil, let alone the center of all evil.

Cain suffered from envy, greed and jealousy. He wanted appreciation and attention that was not his to have and failed to recognize “his own” worth in the eyes of God.

That doesnt say much for just about every single company out there, whose SOLE purpose is to make as much money as possible, they NEVER reach a point when they think enough is enough, its always more, more more.

While it is true, the actual love of money is the root of evil, but its extremely difficult NOT to idolize or to keep wanting more and more money, our entire society is designed around it, the more you have, the more nice things you can have, look at the ads and commercials, they are actively trying as hard as they can to get into peoples wallets and take as much as possible.

I think this is one reason the US works so much, we are about the only country where its common for people to work 50 + hours a week!! it seems NO amount if ever enough. LOL

We have temptation all our lives to deal with. Not to steal is called Moral Clarity, to steal is a sin, not a root of all evil as in your example. I would not put a person who steals a loaf of bread because he is starving as sinful as a person who willfully abortions a baby. In your case study I have a much better answer for that person, get help, see a priest, go to a Church Charity, and most of all pray to God for his help, recognize when he answers, and give him Thanks.

I think depending on what Gods definition of ‘being rich’ is, that could devastate alot of people when they come face to face with him!!

In biblical times, it was easy to spot poor and rich people, but in modern times, its not so clear, in the US, even poor people, living on welfare live in air conditioned and heated homes, most have ovens to cook with, electric to light the rooms and keep warm, they have televisions to watch for entertainment, refridgerators to keep food good for long periods, etc. so there are ALOT of people living in 3rd world countries to whom, this kind of life would seem like luxurious.

I have a sneaky feeling, alot of people are going to get a big surprise when they find out what Gods idea of being rich actually is!! Being poor in the US IS NOT actually living poor compared to the rest of the world…I think this is very important to keep in mind and something most people overlook.

Well, I don’t take issue with any of that, but it’s kinda beside the point I was making.

Exactly.

I think the whole point of the saying is that material attachment is the cause of all evils. IMHO I could substitute any other material object for ‘money’ and the point will still be the same. Money isn’t inherently good or bad - it is only when one is excessively attached to it (=greed) that it becomes a danger.
