In the “puking owls” thread, you two said this:
In the instance of the songs you guys listed, apparently the real lyric in “Help Me, Rhonda” is Well since she put me down, I’ve been out doin’ in my head… Other people heard “Healthy Rhonda”, “Help Rwanda”, “Happy Rhonda”, and “Help me get around the park”.
“Blinded by the Light” was by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, and the actual lyric is Revved up like a duece, another runner in the night (the song was actually written by Bruce Springsteen, again revealing his constant obsession with cars). Other people heard “Dressed up like a dude another roller in the night”, “Wrapped up like a doofus throwing snowballs in a fight”, and “Wrapped up like a loofah by the foreman of the night”.
One that I could never decipher was “Heart of Glass” by Blondie. All I ever heard was “What’s it turned out, we’re makin’ a pass; Love turned out, he had a mass”. The actual lyric is “Once I had a love and it was gas. Soon turned out he had a heart of glass”. Another lyric in the song is “Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind”, which somebody else misheard as “Love is so amusing when there’s peace of mind”.
You can have hours of fun with this site, but be prepared to laugh yourself sick.
years ago, I read one of the funniest commentaries ever written-- a piece by Dave Barry about comically imprecise song lyrics. Most notably and hilariously, he’d mentioned his version of the opening lines of the Beach Boys "Help Me Rhonda.’ I never forgot it.
" Ever since you put me down there’s been owls puking in my bed.…"
I have this site on my favorites menu, and it is hilarious: kissthisguy.com/CCR has my favorite:
there’s a bathroom on the right
there is another song I have never deciphered, from the 80s I think by a group I don’t remember
blinded by the light
wrapped up like a boot with a boulder in the night
now I know that is not the lyric, but what are they really saying?
