Just “stumbled” across this. Sounds very cool!

In the midst of your busy schedule, perhaps you would consider a surprising, an extraordinary change of plans.

How would you like to become a Catholic monk - for a few days? Saint Benedict Abbey introduces:
MONK FOR A WEEKEND

a program which allows Catholic men (ages 18-32) to come to our monastery to share and observe our monastic life for a weekend.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t mind if an order of women religious had a similar program for women to be a nun for a weekend! 🙂

The date posted on the website is old. I know Our Lady of the Mississippi host these weekends three times a year. Contact them for the next available weekend.

Their cream carmels are the best!!! Yum. 😉

I participated in such a thing once in Poland… that’s great time for everyone - for belivers and doubtful… It doesn’t oblige, you go there just for a week. It’s good lesson… it’s an exam for your faith - you can see that not every simple man can be a monk or a priest… :amen:

I checked the website, and it looks wonderful. The weekend they offer is a vocation-discernment weekend, and as I am much too old for that (way over their age limit), I guess what I’d actually like to find is a monastery of women religious where a laywoman could spend a weekend or a week, not in discernment for a vocation, but just to live the same life as the sisters for a few days – sharing in the work and the prayer life – sort of like a private retreat, but a little more active, if that makes sense. If anyone knows of opportunities like that, I’d love to hear about them. 🙂

I know of several monastaries of the Benedictine and Cistercian orders that will allow this for upto 6 months.

I am hoping to make several weekend retreats if they are offered at the Benedictine monastery near me.
