I had left my TV on as I got out of the shower yesterday. The Montel Show was on. He had Sylvia Browne on ( I understood by the chatter one day a week now). I don’t understand how people can get caught up by psychics. I remember in 2003 she predicted the death of John Paul II that year, and that he would be replaced by Pope-by-commitee 3 co-equal Popes. She also predicted a cure for cancer that year. How can people make fun of Catholics and our devotion, and yet spend money and time on psychics? Yesterday she claimed that she works with Preists and Nuns then, claimed there is no such things as demons and the devil.

Wow she must think she god. I stopped watching most network tv years ago.
Can anyone say New Age?

Even though I’m retired now, the tv stays off once the local news is over. I can’t stand all the wackos on daytime, and that includes Sylvia. She makes a hundred predictions, and out of sheer coincidence, hits one, and people say “Oh, she has special powers”. Bull! How people can believe what she says, and not believe in what the Church teaches is beyond me.

Yeah, she’s made all sorts of predictions and stuff and they never talk about how wrong she is all the time. She sure is strange - she started her own church, something to do with father god and ‘mother goddess’ :ehh: It looks like a cult.

I shouldn’t be talking though. My mom thinks she’s great

I don’t trust this Sylvia stuff…btw…is Syvia a guy or woman

What surprises me is I know “Catholics” that like her and go for psychic readings. I have pointed out to them in the Bible and Catechism that it is forbidden. The thing that gets me again is people who deny God and yet believe in spirits (spirtual things). They make fun of us for believing Marian Apporations yet, spirits appear all around them as guides.

I agree, why are their experiences true and ours not true? They can never justify this and of course, the agnostics say that we’re both nuts.
I don’t go to psychic readings because they make no sense and because I am convinced that the Church forbids them for good reason, not because we’ll know something we shouldn’t know, but because they can play havoc with our sense of security by putting absurd ideas into our heads and they won’t do the readings for free, they always want the money upfront and there’s no money back guarantee if they’re wrong!

Sylvia is a whackadoo for sure. But a smart one… I’m sure she gets paid big bucks for her vivid imagination.

Any prophet reading this thread who can tell me the winning lottery ticket number for MD will get my vote for their authenticity.
If they knew…they would be waco to tell you and not cash in themselves 😃

LOL, of course I would offer to play the number FOR them!

I remember seeing her on there years ago. At the time, she would tell people about spirits around them and “communicate” with the spirits. It usually went something like this:

I see someone with a J name… (puzzled look on people’s faces) There’s a j in the name. Maybe Jessica, Jones, Jewel? (Puzzled look and furrowed brow) Yes, yes, there is a J. Jersey? Do you know anyone from Jersey, perhaps? (No) Johannasburg? (No. Well, my husband’s great-aunt’s ex-husband was from Azerbaijan.) Yes, yes! It’s him! I can see dark hair and a man’s face. (That must be him!) Yes, honey, well, he’s watching over you. Next? (That’s odd. He hated us.) Oh? Well, he’s definitely watching over you know. Yes, yes. He feels sorry for all he put you through and he is trying to communicate that with you. Do you ever notice papers moved around? (Once in a while I’ll think I’ll have put it one place but then I find it somewhere else.) Uh-huh! You weren’t mistaken. It’s him, trying to communicate with you! Papers and water are his things. Next?

My youngest sister (age 27) got into this junk after our sister died. She kept after me with look at this mess, I’d read few pages and said this is to silly to believe. I forget the name of the book (something other side???) It was all about coming back and living another life of your choosing if you were good you can choose?? My little sister was convinced that my daughter, also 27, pregnant with her 3rd child was carrying our sister “reborn” and it would be a girl (she had a boy) she has slowed down with this and started listening to the teachings she was taught, but I can definately see how people are drawn into this in their grief and how they can be taken advantage of.

Oh Kaymart, I’m so sorry you lost your sister and that your younger sister got involved with these people. While it was very kind of you to read what your little sister showed you, especially since you were in the midst of your own grief, it was very cruel of the writers to deliberately prey upon her loss.
I watched a cable special by those two magicians, can’t recall their names but they are white middle aged men, one is chubby with glasses and the other is thin, they produced an expose of the charlatans who say that they can ‘talk’ to spirits, they did this because one of them had lost their mother and they were shocked at how many folks are bamboozled by the false promises.
I’m glad that your sister is getting away from this tormenting thoughts and I hope that she can find comfort in her little nephew.

Thank you our sister died July 2004, yet it’s still hard over a year later. Cassie(the sister who read Sylvia Brown) is doing much better, but when I hear about others feeding into this garbage it makes me sick. I watched two of her shows (on Montel) to try to understand how she puts people under her spell and I see these people grabbing for answers, she gives such vauge answers it could be anyone or anything she talking about. For example “I see a man, name begins with J, your Grandfather?” person replies “No grandpa’s name was Bill” Syliva then says “I think it’s an Uncle” reply “No Uncles begining with J” but I have a second cousin named John who died two years ago. Sylvia responses “That’s who it is then” (Never mind the person really didn’t know her second cousin John that well) It’s all a load of bull.

Oh, that’s so recent! And I agree with you totally about Sylvia, I wonder if Montel is so taken with her because he has MS.
I just remembered the name of the magicians, PENN and Teller.
There’s a lot of language in the special but it’s okay in my book because they call BS in the actual words and that doesn’t bother me.
I don’t understand the mindless cruelty against the bereaved. I know they do it for the power and the money but it’s still despicable.
God bless you and your little sister and I’m so thankful for the new life! He’s a gift!
Are you the big sister of the family now?

I was always the big sister I am 22 years older then Cassie and 7 years older than the sister that passed on. There were 7 siblings total.

I’m so sorry that I didn’t answer this earlier, I suddenly got very tired and fell asleep. I know that you must be very precious to your siblings, then. Obviously, your younger sister values your opinion and that’s why she showed you the book.

I can’t tell you how impressed I am that you looked at the book, read it and then declared it nonsense, had you, out of hand, rejected her book, I’m sure that it would have hurt her, but you gave it a chance and read it and then gave your reasoned opinion. It was exactly the way you should have handled such a sensitive situation and I honestly believe that is why she’s slowly moving away from those ideas. I also thank God that the new baby was a boy! Maybe, in her mind, that somehow confirmed to her that you were right and I know that, deep in her heart, she wanted that to be the case.

Big sisters are the best! You are a blessing to her. I don’t want to put undue pressure on you, but some folks get all the luck with their families and it sure sounds to me like your sister is one who did. Thank you for sharing your story, it has enlightened me.

Has anyone ever seen the Pet Psychic on tv? She supposedly hears animals speak to her, and relays their messages. I would put her and Sylvia in the same boat. Anybody that really believes what they say, has serious problems.
