Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Code:
October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary. Here is a lovely prayer to St. Joseph by Leo XIII for the Month of the Holy Rosary:
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of your most holy spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also. Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
Code:
O most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be propitious to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness; and, as once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril so now protect God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die holily, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.
Code:
Dear St. Joseph is often the "forgotten man" and yet, like our Lady, the humility of St. Joseph radiates whenever we think of him. He is the Patron of the Universal Church, yet remains always the husband of Mary and protector of the Child Jesus.

Holy Family, Jesus Mary and Joseph, bless our families. May we pray the Rosary, with attention and devotion, during this month especially but continue to pray always.

Thanks for the reminder! Here’s Our Lady’s 15 Promises for those who faithfully say the Rosary:
  1. To all those who shall pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protection and great graces.
  2. Those who shall persevere in the recitation of my Rosary will receive some special grace.
  3. The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin and dispel heresy.
  4. The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
  5. Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.
  6. Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly reflecting on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune. He will not experience the anger of God nor will he perish by an unprovided death. The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in grace and merit eternal life.
  7. Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
  8. Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces and will share in the merits of the blessed.
  9. I will deliver promptly from purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary.
  10. True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in heaven.
  11. What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain.
  12. To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessities.
  13. I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their intercessors, in life and in death, the entire celestial court.
  14. Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.
  15. Devotion to my Rosary is a special sign of predestination.

I thought that the Church hadn’t officially ratified any of these claims, but also hadn’t said anything against them.

Pope John Paul II
(1978-2005)
“The Rosary is my favorite prayer.”
“Pray, pray much. Say the Rosary everyday”
“I would therefore ask those who devote themselves to the pastoral care of families to recommend heartily the recitation of the Rosary.”
“Recite the Rosary every day. I earnestly urge Pastors to pray the Rosary and to teach people in their Christian communities how to pray it.”
“How beautiful is the family that recites the Rosary every evening.”

Please do not forget about October 7 it is a Sunday my parents were married on this day the feast of the rosary. I do not know what the church is doing this year since it is on a sunday.

Some quotes I like from Blessed John Paul II’s Rosarium Virginis Mariae:

“With the Rosary, the Christian people sits at the school of Mary and is led to
contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience
the depths of his love.”

"To recite the Rosary is nothing other than to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ. "

“The Rosary belongs among the finest and most praiseworthy traditions of Christian contemplation.”

“At the same time, it becomes natural to bring to this encounter
with the sacred humanity of the Redeemer all the problems,
anxieties, labours and endeavours which go to make up our
lives. “Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you”
(Ps 55:23). To pray the Rosary is to hand over our burdens to the
merciful hearts of Christ and his Mother. Twenty-five years
later, thinking back over the difficulties which have also been
part of my exercise of the Petrine ministry, I feel the need to say
once more, as a warm invitation to everyone to experience it
personally: the Rosary does indeed “mark the rhythm of human
life”, bringing it into harmony with the “rhythm” of God’s own
life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life’s
destiny and deepest longing.”

“To understand the Rosary,
one has to enter into the psychological dynamic proper to love.”

"Silence
  1. Listening and meditation are nourished by silence. After the
announcement of the mystery and the proclamation of the word,
it is fitting to pause and focus one’s attention for a suitable
period of time on the mystery concerned, before moving into
vocal prayer. A discovery of the importance of silence is one of
the secrets of practicing contemplation and meditation. One
drawback of a society dominated by technology and the mass
media is the fact that silence becomes increasingly difficult to
achieve. Just as moments of silence are recommended in the
Liturgy, so too in the recitation of the Rosary it is fitting to
pause briefly after listening to the word of God, while the mind
focuses on the content of a particular mystery."
“I look to all of you, brothers and sisters of every state of life, to
you, Christian families, to you, the sick and elderly, and to you,
young people: confidently take up the Rosary once again.
Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture, in harmony with
the Liturgy, and in the context of your daily lives.”

I better stop before the whole thing is copied and pasted here. :o

Dear stanthony,

October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, although since it is a Sunday, the Sunday Liturgy is observed rather than the Feast Day. I hope that individual parishes will do something to honor Our Lady. We are planning to have a special statue of Our Lady of the Rosary moved (just for the month of October) from the Adoration Chapel to the entrance of the Church to help people remember that October is the Month of the Rosary. We have been meeting on the first Sunday of each month for 9 months, as a novena of Rosaries and will meet on Oct. 7 to pray again, this special “Patriotic Rosary” for Mary’s intercession before our November elections.

For more on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary see HERE

PS. Happy and Holy Wedding Anniversary to your parents! 🙂

Dear Hillbilly Hermit,

Thanks so much for all the quotes. It is a wonderful Apostolic Letter from Blessed John Paul II and I encourage all to read the whole of it HERE.

Thank you for posting a link to Blessed JPII’s Apostolic letter. It completely slipped my mind to provide it.😊

I thought that the Church hadn’t officially ratified any of these claims, but also hadn’t said anything against them.
This is private revelation. The Church doesn’t insist (ratify) that you must believe private revelation. But in certain cases, like this, the Church allows you to believe, if you want. Apparitions of the Virgin Mary, like at Lourdes, LaSallette, Fatima, etc., are private revelation. But the Church has approved belief in them.

My Rosary quote for the day:
“Let us meditate, then, on the life and sufferings of our Savior by means of the holy Rosary; let us learn to know him well and be grateful for all his blessings, so that, on the day of Judgement, he may number us among his children and his friends.”

From The Secret of the Rosary, by St. Louis De Montfort(23rd Rose).

Dear HillbillyHermit,

Thanks for this quote from St. Louis de Montfort, which so expresses the beauty of praying the Holy Rosary with attention and devotion. We are called to gaze on Jesus with Mary.

St. Louis de Montfort’s love for Our Lady grew from his love for Jesus, and his love for Jesus grew though his love for Mary. Often Catholics are criticized by non Catholics, for giving “too much attention” to Mary. How sad that is, to me! As St. Louis laments in his book, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary:
…Dear Jesus, do these people possess your spirit? Do they please you by acting in this way? Would it please you if we were to make no effort to give pleasure to your Mother because we are afraid of offending you? Does devotion to your holy Mother hinder devotion to you? Does Mary keep for herself any honour we pay her? Is she a rival of yours? Is she a stranger having no kinship with you? Does pleasing her imply displeasing you? Does the gift of oneself to her constitute a deprivation for you? Is love for her a lessening of our love for you? (from paragraph 64)
And in another portion of the same book St. Louis states so well:
  1. And yet in truth we must still say with the saints: De Maria numquam satis : We have still not praised, exalted, honoured, loved and served Mary adequately. She is worthy of even more praise, respect, love and service.
  1. Moreover, we should repeat after the Holy Spirit, “All the glory of the king’s daughter is within”, meaning that all the external glory which heaven and earth vie with each other to give her is nothing compared to what she has received interiorly from her Creator, namely, a glory unknown to insignificant creatures like us, who cannot penetrate into the secrets of the king.
  1. Finally, we must say in the words of the apostle Paul, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has the heart of man understood” the beauty, the grandeur, the excellence of Mary, who is indeed a miracle of miracles of grace, nature and glory. “If you wish to understand the Mother,” says a saint, “then understand the Son. She is a worthy Mother of God.” Hic taceat omnis lingua : Here let every tongue be silent.
  1. My heart has dictated with special joy all that I have written to show that Mary has been unknown up till now, and that that is one of the reasons why Jesus Christ is not known as he should be.
If then, as is certain, the knowledge and the kingdom of Jesus Christ must come into the world, it can only be as a necessary consequence of the knowledge and reign of Mary. She who first gave him to the world will establish his kingdom in the world.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

Dear HillbillyHermit,

Thanks for this quote from St. Louis de Montfort, which so expresses the beauty of praying the Holy Rosary with attention and devotion. We are called to gaze on Jesus with Mary.
You’re very welcome, MariaChristi. IMO The Secret of the Rosary and Blessed John Paul II’s Apostolic letter On the Most Holy Rosary are volume I and II of how to pray it. There are so many great suggestions from both to choose from!
St. Louis de Montfort’s love for Our Lady grew from his love for Jesus, and his love for Jesus grew though his love for Mary. Often Catholics are criticized by non Catholics, for giving “too much attention” to Mary. How sad that is, to me!
And yet, people give so much attention to those who have done much less for them and the world. She gives us Jesus, Love and Mercy Himself! Why wouldn’t we be in awe and thankful for such a great gift!

Another quote from Bl. JP2’s On the Most Holy Rosary:
The Rosary of the Virgin Mary, which gradually took form in
the second millennium under the guidance of the Spirit of God,
is a prayer loved by countless Saints and encouraged by the
Magisterium. Simple yet profound, it still remains, at the dawn
of this third millennium, a prayer of great significance, destined
to bring forth a harvest of holiness. It blends easily into the
spiritual journey of the Christian life, which, after two thousand
years, has lost none of the freshness of its beginnings and feels
drawn by the Spirit of God to “set out into the deep” (duc in
altum!) in order once more to proclaim, and even cry out, before
the world that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, “the way, and
the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6), “the goal of human history and
the point on which the desires of history and civilization
turn”.
It does blend easily, if we allow it to, into our spiritual journey. Out of all the suggestions by St. Louis, Bl. JP2, and others…something will work on a personal level with each of us to know, love, and serve God better through this simple and versatile prayer. That’s why lately I’ve ended the Rosary simply by praying:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

It reminds me where it’s at, the heart. Mine is a stubborn one and needs their help every day.
God Bless.
🙂

‘Ever since Blessed Alan de la Roche re-established this devotion the voice of the people, which is the voice of God, called it the Rosary. The word Rosary means “Crown of Roses” that is to say that every time people say the Rosary devoutly they place a crown of one hundred and fifty-three red roses and sixteen white roses upon the heads of Jesus and Mary. Being heavenly flowers these roses will never fade or lose their exquisite beauty.’

St. Louis Marie de Montfort

‘I have no better way of knowing if a man is for God than if he likes to say the Hail Mary and the Rosary.’

St. Louis Marie de Montfort

‘The Holy Rosary is the storehouse of countless blessings.’

Bl. Alan de la Roche

‘When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary.’

The Blessed Virgin, to Bl. Alan de la Roche

‘“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee!” No creature has ever said anything that was more pleasing to me, nor will anyone ever be able to find or say to me anything that pleases me more.’

Our Lady to St. Mechtilde

‘There is no surer means of calling down God’s blessing upon the family than the daily recitation of the Rosary.’

Pope Pius XII

‘If our age in its pride laughs at and rejects Our Lady’s Rosary, a countless legion of the most saintly men of every age and of every condition have not only held it most dear and have most piously recited it but have also used it at all times as a most powerful weapon to overcome the devil, to preserve the purity of their lives, to acquire virtue more zealously, in a word, to promote peace among men.’

Dear Shin,

Thanks so much for these quotes. May they serve to encourage many persons to begin and/or continue praying the Rosary with attention and devotion, not only during this month of October especially, but always. 🙂

Dear Hillbilly Hermit,

Yes, I agree. God always looks to our heart. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Mt. 6:21)

The Rosary has changed my life!!🙂

Join the Rosary Confraternity here - rosary-center.org/
I’ve been a member for a year or so. It’s great to know that people are praying for me, and that I’m doing the same for them. Sometimes just knowing that can help one make it through the day. 🙂

Time to read The Secret of the Rosary…again!

Shin,

The quotes you provided are inspirational and thought provoking. Thank you for sharing.

Our Lady of the Rosary pray for us.

I don’t have any quotes from a Pope or Saint today. Just wanted to say that it’s awesome to spend time with Jesus and Mary. And picturing the events in the mysteries of the Rosary in this age of technology, whatever the method, is a great way to get some peace and the right images in our minds.
