Ridiculous
. If it is ok for people to spend their own money for expensive things for themselves- cars, homes, clothes, etc. then why would it be wrong for people to sacrifice their own money to beautify God’s house on earth? It is not wrong to be wealthy and to have nice things. Yes, all of us should be responsible with the money that we have. the more you have the more that you are responsible for. As far as having gold chalices…well they are not solid gold. They are usually gold plated. There are certain requirements on what the vessels that hold the Body and Precious Blood of our Lord be made of.

Sad to see that word used… … And is it right for us to spend excessively? Or for us as Catholic Christians to be wealthy while little ones die as they do? Just asking, as I have done often. Are not these things for the world who know not Jesus? Not for us. The House of God needs no great adornment; much of what we see here is excessive .

I always aver that the glory of God is a world where no child dies of hunger or preventible illness and no one sleeps rough etc. We can do this. But then that is my way and my belief and at the end all I can do is live it to the full now.

We live in an age when folk really think that giving fine things to the Church when they are not needed is in fact giving to God… I do not believe it is.

I know Jesus as a poor man on this earth.

OK, my bedtime here so I will love you ( and I mean that) and leave you… Just my heart breaks at the deaths of children who I could feed if I had more money. Hunger is terrible .

Regarding your link , The pope said that he did not forbid the people from going to his inauguration. He only said that it was not necessary.
Which is the greater thing?
Donating money to a poor person who has not got any money to buy medicines or donating money to buy some expensive art work?
