Monty python, contraception and abortion

This, to me, dances around the abortion issue and implies pro-choice values. I want to play a game whose rules quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Should I ignore the game?
 
I think you are thinking about this way too hard. I also think the skit you quoted is funny. And don’t forget they turn around and make fun of Protestants in the very next scene.

As for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, “the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch” is also hilarious.

It’s comedy.

We don’t have any information about the game.

If the game asks you to quote a line from a movie, I don’t think you would be doing anything wrong, unless what you were quoting - you know is wrong to say.

It’s just a flesh wound!

I actually agree with your concerns, in general.

Monty Python has some of my favorite comedy but there are scenes and whole movies I avoid when I feel they are overstepping - particularly in relation to sex and sacredness of life.

The Holy Grail is OK with me though. It has some ignorant (but funny!) mocking of the Catholic Church in the middle ages, but nothing that would stop me from watching the movie or buying that game.

This content is pretty tame compared to most new comedies these days (which I avoid). I think it would be totally fine for adults to play a game using lines like that. It would inappropriate in my eyes for young children to be reading some of that stuff. Maybe age 15 or 16 would be mature enough. So to answer your question: go ahead if you are over 18; maybe wait If you are under 15.

My OCD is terrified that something like this - this “humor” - could start a train of thought to advancing the pro-choice cause, be it advocacy, money, or else.

No. The Meaning of Life is one of the Monty Python movies I already avoid, from what I’ve heard of it - so there’s no need to convince me.

My personal advice, and of most here, is that The Holy Grail, while having some difficulties (in my view), is OK - and that’s what your question is about.

As to possibly supporting indirectly the pro-choice cause by giving any money to Monty Python, I can’t give you a firm answer, but it does seem to be OCD talking. As others have said, Monty Python is low on the list of anti-Catholic humor.

Perhaps you could be more specific about how you think Monty Python is funding pro-choice?
 
I’m not talking about “holy grail.” I’m talking about “meaning of life.” See first post. 😉 Said passage’s implying they think abortion would be okay if the movie were set in our time.

I’m not sure where you are getting anything about abortion out of the skit. It’s about contraception. Not that I’m saying that that’s ok either. But abortion is never brought up or mentioned that I see.

Don’t worry. It’s just funny. The Church can stand a bit of being made fun of once in a while.

And, whatever you do, don’t listen to Tom Lehrer’s Vatican Rag.
