I love MP’s Meaning of Life and as a Catholic, I find the “Every Sperm is Sacred” number the singular best satire on the Church’s position of condoms in a marriage. Satire done to utter perfection without hate and malice.

At least we should take heart to knowing that the movie was supposed to have a Martin Luther sketch which was cut out in the final version. 😃

There were aspects of Meaning of Life that weren’t funny, like the fat guy exploding. The every sperm is sacred song was fairly harmless. I know some people dim enough to find Life of Brian plausible, but i think Always Look on the Bright Side of Life was a pretty accurate statement. I mean, Christ died for us and most of us will never experience anything near as bad as the Passion, so why not be happy?
I think the Python crew means to be irreverent (“naughty” as the Brits might say), but to be funny, not mean. And usually they are funny. Very funny.🙂

I guess that’s the job of those guys. They mean to offend everyone by showing those rather gory sketches (like that ‘Sam Peck(name removed by moderator)ah’s Salad Days’ sketch).

They might lampoon Christians or Jews or Muslims, but they’d never dare cross the line and mock God (though they might suggest that He looks like W.G. Grace) , Jesus, Moses and whatever. That’s probably why they said the Life of Brian is heretical but not blasphemous.

I guess they had a good job of mocking just about everyone.

They’ve mocked Catholics (and in the last part of the sketch, Protestants) in Every Sperm is Sacred,
Lampooned commentators on Political Correctness in that song ‘Never be rude to an Arab’,
…what else could have they offended?

…At least, I’d take them over South Park everyday. 😃

At least the first part of ‘Every sperm is Sacred’ is quite nice, you could almost use it as some profession of your religion:

'There are Jews in the world,
there are Buddhists
There are Hindus,
and Mormons,
and then
There are those that follow Mohammed; BUT
I’ve never been one of them.

I’m a Roman Catholic
And have been since before I was born
And the one thing they say about Catholics is
They’ll take you as soon as you’re warm

You don’t have to be a six footer
You don’t have to have a great brain
You don’t have to have any clothes on
You’re a Catholic the moment Dad came…’

We should just change the lyrics a bit and we’ll have some nice Profession of the Catholic Faith. Follow it up with the Nicene Creed afterwards. 😃
Lovely.
Then there’s the Irish family with about 38 kids because they won’t use ABC and the children go marching off to the workhouse singing, “Every single sperm is special, every single spern is good . . .” I suppose that’s their version of Humanae Vitae?

I’ve always had a warped sense of humor but to me MP isn’t funny at all. Well, except for the Foster’s crew singing:

Immanuel Kant was an old pissant,
Who was very rarely sober,
Heidigger, Heidigger, was a boozy old beggar,
Who was often under the table . . .

That’s all I remember but I know it included most of the “great” philosophers.

Ah, the ‘Bruce’s Philosopher’s Song’.

‘There is no Rule 6.’ 😃

I’ve seen that one! I think it made it into the Director’s Cut. It wasn’t one of the funnier parts in my opinion.

Here’s a link to the script.. Search for Reform-o-Scope on the page and it’ll take you right to where the sketch begins.
