Is it wrong to buy products from Starbucks, knowing that they support planned parenthood?

What about Target, with their Transgender bathrooms thing? I don’t know if Target supports planned parenthood though.

Where does it end?

I mean, boycott everyone? There are so many people who run or own businesses and to be honest probably don’t support my particular religion or moral beliefs. Even other Christians.

I use a muslim owned dry cleaners. I know the pc guy who my dh contracted with is Atheist. But they do good work.

Now, I do sometimes chose to shop at one place over another if I need something. I tend to go to our local grocery store over a big box store for most groceries. But, even they have been stinkers on some issues.

Use common sense. For instance many years ago a friend took a class called “Christology” and in it they discussed buying a winter coat. Don’t buy an ostentatious coat, or a sweat-shop made cheap coat that will not last, but a well made ethically produced coat that lasts many seasons, and perhaps can be handed on to someone in need.

That was a class I wish I could have taken.

God Bless you for thinking about this, and I will enjoy reading other’s responses.

You have to choose your battles. I refuse to shop at Target, but would never turn down a grande vanilla latte from Starbucks. :juggle:

I haven’t bought Starbucks since last summer and, honestly, I haven’t missed it! I found ways to make my own iced coffee and it’s quite delicious, if I do say so myself. 👍
When it comes to buying from super stores like Target or Wal-Mart, well, sometimes that’s all there is and you have to eat and provide for your family…I do try to rotate where I shop so that not just one company is getting all my business, even though I’m not sure how effective this is. Basically, if it’s a company that isn’t a necessity (like Starbucks) I boycott it to the max, but when I absolutely need something, unfortunately that’s when I have to bite the bullet.

I don’t let anyone try to bully or guilt me into boycotting anything. We are free to do as we please. If I refuse to shop somewhere it’s because I don’t like the products or service, etc. I try to buy what I need at the most reasonable price. If we try to avoid buying at all these stores that give money to things we don’t approve of, there would be few places to shop and we would be spending a lot more money in many cases. Boycotts rarely affect anything. I have yet to read anything that says the Church has said we should not shop at certain stores. But there are plenty of people giving their opinion on this, trying to make people feel guilty about it.

If we had to boycott every store or company that does something that contradicts Church teachings we would have to live in an isolated cave naked and thirsty.
All these questions about boycotting are nonsense and a waste of time. You are NOT cooperating in any sin by having a coffee at Starbucks!!

Jesus never said life in the secular world, trying to abide by Gods laws, was going to be even remotely easy or comfortable though, in fact he said to expect the opposite, so its no coincidence its SOOOO hard if not close to impossible to avoid doing these things.

The problem is, modern christians want the best of both worlds, they want to live a fairly easy, comfortable, successful earthly life in a secular, increasingly hedonistic world…that is just not possible to do.

You can use the moral principle of cooperation with evil as your framework when deciding who to do. Justness with, and also look at the fonts of morality.
In general, no it is not morally problematic to do business with a company or person because they spend the money they earn in a way you disagree with.

You may personally feel called to boycott a company or product, and if you do please let them know you are doing so and why. That is how boycotts can be effective, if they are.

…or we just want to be able to feed and clothe ourselves without having to make everything from scratch.

Well, like I said above, no one ever suggested avoiding direct or indirect cooperation with evil would be easy or convenient in anyway.

How much butter have you churned this week? 😃
Im guilty of this too! Im like any other person, its much easier to just go out and buy things I need in the stores, even though I realize some of the stores and companies are in cooperation with evil so to speak, but I also recognize I will probably have to answer for little things like this one day too…I have a feeling when God asks me why I kept buying ‘X’ from a company or store that I knew financially supported immorality/ evil, and I say, “well, everyone else does it, its too inconvenient to avoid these types of things in the world we live in today, etc etc”…Somehow, I doubt that excuse will go very far in Gods eyes. LOL
