I work away from home for extended periods. Is it morally wrong to engage in making love to my wife over the phone to the point where sexual arousal is initiated and satisfied. At what point does this exchange become immoral if at all?

Yes it is wrong.
Any sexual act that is not ordered toward intercourse and open to life is a disordered act.

I would strongly suggest you stay away from such “play” on the phone, especially if you are not going to be home for some period of time.

And just so you understand, I do not say the above, without some experience and understanding of your situation.

As much as we miss our spouses we need to be with them physically in order to engage in the marital act.
