If one has sexual fantacies, is it concidered a moral sin or a venial sin?

Not to nitpick, but it is “mortal”, not moral.

Such fantasies, if intentional and entertained, are grave matter - i.e., there is a mortal sin.

Fr. Larry Richards once asked an older priest “Father when do we stop getting sexually tempted.” To which the older priest replied, “I don’t know ask me tomorrow, because it did not stop today!”

It is in how you react to the sexual thoughts and temptations that cause a sin to be mortal or venial. If you are sexually tempted by a member of the opposite sex and realize that and put it out of your mind, no harm, no foul.

No if, as you mentioned, you start to fantasize about that person, that is where you are crossing that line. Objectification of that person and using them for your own sexual pleasure is where it becomes sinful. I am not sure where the line is drawn. For instance, if a spouse was to fantasize about this wife knowing they are going to be intimate would that be a mortal sin?

(Mind you if you carry out the fantasy in by masturbating it is a mortal sin)

what are some things you guys do to help get those images out of the mind asap? I try to pray the prayer to St. Michael and then I think back to the happiest memory of my childhood. That helps with the dirty thoughts. 🙂

… In the area of deliberate sexual sins, all are mortal sins if there is sufficient reflection and full consent of the will
