Just a few things to consider:
• Professional contractors will always pull a permit for the work they are doing. It is protection for you, the consumer, and for the company doing the work.
• Liability should be of great concern to you. If the contractor does damage to your home, or someone doing work on your home is hurt, you may be liable.
• Why wouldn’t you want a permit to be taken out, it’s for your protection. The work is inspected by a person that is licensed by the State in which you live. The work will be done correctly; also there may be issues in your basement that may be cause for concern. Some basements for one reason or another cannot be finished as living space, only storage.
• Sure, your taxes will go up, but, when you’re issued a Certificate of Occupancy after the work is completed; add the finished basement to your Home Owners Policy and if something should happen that causes damage you will be covered.
• You’ll sleep better at night knowing the work was completed in a professional manner.
