i own a business, and one of my sales people sold a product(few lighting fixture) about a year or two years ago,the customer brought back some of the fixtures, because they were defective.when my salesperson called the company, they told him they were having problems with some of these fixtures and they said they would give full credit.the question is this, my salesperson charged the the customer half price plus shipping for another, lets say 6 or 7 fixtures which the customer agreed to pay.would that be not fair or immoral? (the customer does not know we got full credit on the product).if the customer would have asked what is the warranty on the fixture, usually we give one year.

thankyou

What would the customer do if they did know? And what would the supplier do?

I think it sounds fraudulent. You gained the half prices of the second set of fixtures for free. Why not win the good favor of your customer - ring them up and say we made a mistake…and that a refund is due them and you will be sending it.

Very good answer Edward and, Louie imagine the impression you will make on that customer when you tell them a mistake was made. That is the kind of reputation any man or woman in business strives for. Take this time to make the right decision and explain to them, you are doing the right thing. For them and for you.
Good job. Extra profit margin is not worth your integrity.

Did they bring the product back after the warranty was out? You have good suppliers that would give you a full refund on defective items after two years of use!!!
Anyhow, I wouldnt say I made a mistake! The customer will then start to wonder what other mistakes you might have made or make. Mistake is the wrong word. Say you value their custom, are sorry they had a problem with your product and as a goodwill gesture youre going to give them a full refund.

… or that, unexpectedly, the supplier gave you full credit and you want to pass it along.
