moral question

i helped my cousin to come into the country and gave him a job at my place(lighiting supply family owned).he worked for me for 11 years with good pay .he wanted me to open a business with him a lighting place and go partners with him, but i refused because he is a person hard to deal with because of his personality.He went and opened a lighting shop on his own,but before he left he took the phone numbers of the suppliers that i buy from and phone numbers of a lot of my customer, and call them after he opened.the question is it morally acceptable to tell these suppliers which i am buying from not to do any business with him(there are other companies he could buy from).he contacted many of my customers and many are buying from him.I do not thing he could have survived if he had not contacted these customers.
i recognize the fact that many people helped me to get where i am at today.

There’s an old saying that “No good deed should ever go unpunished.” Your cousin appears to have wronged you after you supported him. But, there’s nothing you can do legally, or that you may want to do without affecting family ties or your business reputation.

You say he is hard to deal with. Try patience, then. In time the suppliers will return to appreciate your business more, and the customers, especially contractors, will not put up with any nonsense from your cousin, and they will also return to your superior service and inventory.

I will add you to my prayers; you have been treated unjustly and deserve God’s blessing.
 
This is a tough one.
There is no doubt that he acted immorally if he took the contacts without your knowledge and consent. But that is water under the bridge…After all the suppliers he could have looked up on his own…The customers are a different matter.

The question now is what is the moral thing for you to do…
You need to consider a few things.

Has he hurt your business by his immoral conduct?
Has he been “badmouthing” you to customers and suppliers?
Is it likely that your suppliers could be hurt by this person?

When you say that he is hard to deal with because of his personality, is it basically honest but just abrasive? Is he able to “sell”? Does he do good work?

I really can’t give much advice since I know so little. What I can say is that if he is in a “people business”, and is hard to do business with, he won’t be in business long.

If it was me, I think I would just let it go and redouble my efforts to be the best supplier to my customers and the best customer to my suppliers. 👍

when he worked for me,he was a good worker and honest,but he always want more and more.what if ask my suppliers, the ones i do a lot of business with, to not at least give him my prices on the products,because right now he is not doing the volume in sales that i am doing,would that be fair to ask from my suppliers.

Maybe you can talk with him and let him know that he is hurting your buisness by taking your customers, and maybe he will stop.

If he doesn’t stop or you can’t talk with him about that, you can pray to God to give you strength to do as Jesus says in Matthew 5:39:

Matthew 5:39 KJV
“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

And give it to God.

Romans 12:19 KJV
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written , Vengeance is mine; I will repay , saith the Lord.

Nothing you have told us here would support such a request.

What would be your motivation for asking this of you suppliers?
That is the question you need to answer…

I hope you don’t mind me posting on here as I joined this site to find out more about Christianity as it seems to be in line with my beliefs and as such I don’t know much about Christianity or the bible.

My personal opinion is that what he did was wrong he negitivly affected your bussiness on purpose but surely if you do anything you will be doing exactly the same as he did for you? The bible (to the best of my knowledge) teaches to turn the other cheek and not retaliate ie and eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth so I would say lead by example turn the other cheek and act morally and in time your customers/suppliers will return to you I hope that helps -Aaron
