Moral sinners can't receive Eucharist, but don't they need it?

Hi everyone, I’m new here but this quote poses a question

"Seriously, mortal sin is called “mortal” because it kills the life of Christ in the soul. A person in mortal sin is spiritually dead. "

I do not understand how a person, who in “mortal” sin, yet claims Christ as their savior, proclaims him to be the promissed Jewish messiah, the risen messiah and the only begotten son of God and futher spreads the gospel, how can this person be considered to be spiritually dead and has had the life of Christ extinguished in them? This suggests that one could go to their grave claiming Christ as their saviour but still be damned.

I understand that a person in a state of mortal sin cannot receive the Eucharist. I have gotten questions from people saying “if the ‘wafer’ is really the Body of Jesus, shouldn’t a sinner benefit from receiving it more than a person in a state of grace?” I don’t know how to address this. And yes, some people I know really do call the Body a “wafer”
Peace and all-good!

Indeed, we all need to nourish our lives daily with the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

But persons who are in the **state of mortal sins **first need **true repentance **from sins and to confess to a priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Sacred Host.

Ave Maria!

Christ has answered your question in Matthew 7:

Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’

Our Lord is a most excellent teacher. 👍
Indeed, But I am still somewhat puzzled about the validity of other “churches” Was there not an account in the Bible where a man was seen preaching in the name of Jesus. The Apostles then asked the Lord if they should stop him and he told them to let him continue? Of course there was the account of the man who tried to cast out a rather powerful demon using the name of Jesus and then Paul. The demon replied "Jesus I know, Paul I know, but who are you? The poor fellow was soon dispatched. My point being that if the Lord allowed the unknown man to preach in his name, can not the protestants?

I think you are right to say other Christian Churches are Valid. Some have excellent things to say and do leading to the salvation of souls. Our Pope, Benedict XVI, is very clear on the point that only in the Catholic Church is Jesus physically present for us and the sacraments, essential to salvation, are available through our priests. God Bless! 🙂 RSulli

I love this forum already. I was on another"Catholic" forum recently and they all reacted with shock and hatred to my questions, literally.😦

Your question seems to be not about the validity of other Churches, but about the “validity” of other Christians. 🙂

The Catholic Church teaches that there can be true Christians who are in imperfect communion with the Church. But that does not make their own denominations true Churches. A true Church needs bishops whose authority derives from the Apostles, and it needs valid sacraments.

That’s as good an aswer as any. I geuss the other “churches” are really more like very advanced Bible study groups. they have a good sermon and true faith, but no authority. Which is why they come to the Catholics when they have a pseky demon in there midst.
