I gather from posts I’ve read that a pharmacist
should not fill a contraceptive order.

Now what if your working at the cash register
at any dept. store or grocery store & someone
puts Condoms or a Playboy Magazine on the counter.
Can you ring them up or would this be a sin?

What if your the stock-boy?
Can you put them on the shelf?

Can you work at any place that even sells such things?

Can a consumer shop at a place that
sells such things?

This would make it nearly impossible to shop
anywhere if it were a sin!

Where does the line get crossed?
I really need a job, bad!
I don’t wanna cross any moral boundaries!

Can I work at a Kroger, Wal-mart, or Rite-aid store?

When I worked in a supermarket (10 years ago) I did not even realise that they sold condoms. When they first passed through my till I didn’t realise what they were, because you don’t actually look at the items you pass through the scanner, you just do it.

Then someone asked me what I did about people buying condoms, and I was shocked at what I had been doing. I applied to another department (computer dept.) and got the job only to find that I was doing the ordering.

Whilst I worked there I never ordered condoms - I just left them off the order. Of course there were other people doing orders who presumably didn’t leave them off, but I refused to order them.

I don’t know if anyone noticed, I never asked, and no-one ever asked me, but I would have quit my job rather than order them.

That said, I was only doing a fill in job for six months to get a bit of extra cash, and we could and did manage without it. I think it would be different if I had had to work there to feed my family.

My advice to you would be see if you can find another job where you don’t have this problem, not because you are committing a sin, but because it is horrible for you be put in that position. It may not be possible for you, but do if you possibly can. I was so happy to be able to give up that job!
