The war in Iraq is not illegal or unjust according to the Catholic Church.
Not quite. The Catholic Church hasn’t made any formal declaration about the legality or illegality of the war.

You are 100% correct.

Right, and until The Church does make a declaration we are all free to form our own opinion. One may say the war is unjust in their opinion but they can not say it is unjust according to The Church, just as I can say it is just in my opinion but can not say it is according to The Church.

Whether troops want to be there or not…we need to support them, and I mean not only with our prayers. If you know a soldier, send him/her letters, cards, a goodie package now and then. Find out what he/she needs/wants and try to provide it. THAT’S the Catholic way. And Johny, people who oppose the travesty of abortion(excluding violent nutjobs - unlike the other side of the fence) are not extremists.

From a soldier’s blog this morning:

Men and women have come to Iraq from America and other countries with the expressed intent of building, helping, and providing hope. Yes - there is a chance we may fail. There is a chance that the nihilistic left and their allies in the MSM, Hollywood - and unfortunately some in elected office - will be able to undermine these efforts by destroying American resolve with their nagging propaganda and constant harsh criticisms. It’s possible - even likely - that their undermining work will strengthen the resolve of our enemies, increasing our risk as well as increasing the threat to a future secure and somewhat democratic Iraq.

One thing is clear - radical Islamic thugs and the political left share the same values of destruction and condemnation. Meanwhile, in a place unknown, unexplored, and unvisited by the left, a common American and a common Iraqi have discovered that they too share some things - a desire to build, to help, and to hope. And black coffee.

My prayer and hope is that the builders will prevail over the destroyers.

I would like to address the facts, since you appeal to a statistical mandate. It all depends on how you identify a majority. The most reliable figures I have checked of late break down the American view on abortion (through self-identification) as 47% prochoice and 42% prolife. That is a small margin of difference, and certainly close enough of a divide that no one should take the position that there is a clear mandate here.
