Morality changes with time and location?

Slavery was okay in most parts of the world, but suddenly we collectively decided that wasn’t nice and civilized nations stopped doing it? Even further back we treated our daughters like commodities. If morality changes with time and location, it isn’t objective?

And continuing on from my other thread why doesn’t everybody seem to have this innate sense of wrong like psychopaths etc?

I addressed the idea of an innate sense of wrong (or right for that matter) in one of your other three almost identical threads it doesn’t exist. Morality is learned… numerous psych studies have shown it. Kohlberg’s stages of moral development outline it very well.

A psychopath is someone who typically displays a lack of empathy towards others with no real sense of right and wrong. WHY that is could be a number of things, a chemical imbalance, a traumatic experience as a child etc. Since you’re obviously not getting the answers you want here I’d suggest picking up a book on moral development.

Oh… and as far as the slavery thing… someone actually posted earlier this week something about how slavery STILL happens. We just don’t hear about it as often. As far as that goes… the people who’ve condoned or still do condone slavery clearly lack in morality… again… why that is could be a lot of different reasons.

Are you saying that at one time slavery was “okay” because it was legal? I would say even when it was “okay” it was still sinful. Treating another human being with such little dignity is never morally acceptable. I imagine that’s why slavery is no longer “okay”.

Just because it’s “okay” in society, doesn’t mean it’s morally acceptable in the eyes of God. Look at abortion. Totally legal - totally fine in secular society, but it is grave matter in God’s eyes.
 
Certain things are objectively evil.

Abortion is a good example.

No matter what a society thinks of them.

(sometimes it can take time etc before the realize it…at certain times in history …people did not realize certain things were evil…but with time and grace and reason…they began to realize it…)

In some things there are objective realities …but cultural application of those realities change as culture changes (of course there are limits…lines that never change even in these things).

Modesty is a good example.

Other things are are not objectively evil…but due to certain circumstances etc they become evil…

Giving money to the poor is not evil.

But if one does it for the reason of vanity…evil enters in.

(Circumstance can make a ordinarily good action into an evil one…though it is important to note that circumstance can not make an objectively evil into a good)
 
How humans follow objective truth is not indicatve of the truth itself. Yes, we will see many things (abortion for example) that are accepted by different societies but that is where free will comes to play. Slavery was never okay. Slavery was a practice that people chose to follow despite their innate understanding that all of us are humans. It is a sense of pride and ownership and is no different than the prejudices that are practiced everywhere to this day. Objective moral values cannot change. The following of those values will forever change with those who choose power over dignity… teachccd
