Steve, I have a horse tub I got at the feed store that I use as my execution chamber. Then I bury the skunks under a tree.
Hello Sailboat,

I see you are from the North West. Just don’t let the neighbors see you buring drown skunks under your tree if you live in or around Seattle, the heart of libralsville.

St Eric,
That’s pretty extreme, killing people’s cats, don’t you think? The people at that other site would really be upset.I would never kill someones pet

I had a .22 rifle at one time, then it broke, I mention that already. I no longer own a gun.
Hmmmm…someone elses pet giving my human children copraneleosis (which can kill humans) by virtue of them pooping in my childrens play area, and killing said offender prior to incfection of my children extreme? Well, if saving my human children at the expense of a cat is extreme…well…label me eaxtreme to the max ! Kepp your cats in the house (if you own a cat)! This really points to a bigger issue. Why do we suppose we can “own” an animal in the first place? And, why do you feel a compulsion to “own” an animal?

Not sure if this helps but Great Horned Owls eat skunks, and dogs can be trained to kill them (but not eat them :p) also I found a forum of people who are having problems with skunks but most seem to be against killing them there. It did have some links concerning skunks from what I saw though, so I’ll post it atwatervillage.org/forum/threads.php?id=187_0_29_0_C

I think because God’s creation is pretty neat. and cats and dogs have been part of the human family for a long time. They are part of our society, they are endearing and appealing.

I’m sure, though, since the first primative human took in an appealing wolf pup to raise, there were some in the tribe who didn’t like it. You are probably one of their decendents, Eric.

I don’t know if you are looking for a theological reason or what but I did a search at www.prolifesearch.com for “aquinas” and “animals” and got a whole list of resuls which included the following page. I’m not sure if it will help or even what his opinion on pets was but maybe you should check it out or if it doesn’t help search “Augustine” “Animals” or “Saint” “Animals” or some other similar combination. scu.edu/ethics/publications/submitted/Ramirez/FaithSeekingFood.html

Ya know what? I also really do not like pit bulls or american bulldogs. Now, would anyone have a problem with snuffing an american bulldog or a pitbull, that was someone’s pet (usually a marginal member of society who is an active felon’s pet, but not always) a pitbull or american bulldog that running around the neighborhood, un brideled? BAMMM! A so called pet (vicious animal that sees my 4 year old as a midday snack) running around the hood? That can eat kids? Sorry, if you aint got that thing on a logging chain…I will pump lead into your precious pet, and will NOT feel any remorse.

St Francis was a big lover of animals. There were probably some Saints who disliked them. There is room in the Church for us all.

We had to put one of our dogs to sleep because she bit someone. It was heartwrenching because she was a wonderful dog, but she had fear aggression, and we couldn’t risk it. Now we have two other dogs who are better adapted to humans. So, I don’t have a problem with putting a maladapted animal down. After all, I’m a mass murderer of skunks, right?

I don’t have a problem with being one of their descendants. We are probably the ones who kep your kind alive. Why keep a “pet” whe you can eat it and stay alive to hunt another day? Animals belong outside. We, according to the bible are their masters- not their equals.

I am a great lover of animals myself! However, I do not like them in my territory. In their natural envirnment I love them dearly. They have their place and we have ours…no?

We’ve caught possoms & raccoons in animal traps and set them free at a nature center about five miles away. I can’t even imagine systematically drowning an animal -seems a little demented -no offense.

Yes we do have cats -three of them. Used to have four until one died this year. I can’t have more children - so there blows that idea. And yes you can probably tell by the scent at times. They’re indoor cats so I don’t have to worry about any neighbors feeding them to coyotes. We also have a very cute hamster if you must know. Our daughter loves them , and it’s her responsibilty to care for them -which is a great lesson for kids to learn. And they’re fun.

You don’t like pets, don’t have any. But there’s nothing horrible about owning pets -certainly not as horrible as killing someone beloved animal-sheesh.

I no longer own a gun.
that IS a true problem. everyone should be armed, if they wish. i’d prefer plinking them with a .22 or even a scope on one of my handguns (a little varmint target practice, if you will) rather than drowning, if only for the fear of getting sprayed and/or causing them pain. drowning by all accounts is painful.

I think the solution here is obvious. Blow-darts full of heroin.
Ok, but how is Sailboat supposed to get heroine? And what if the heroine just made them high? Then wouldn’t Sailboat be in trouble for getting skunks addicted to heroine? I mean, what are the social/moral/ethical/spiritual ramifications of this?!

I think we need a whole new thread on animal ethics here…

Ok, just to point this out, skunks and bats are two animals that can carry rabies without symptoms. They can transmit it to anyone they bite or anyone that comes into contact with their bodily fluids or nerve tissue.

If you kill them humanely, and not with cruelty, you may well be protecting your animals and your family.

People say they don’t like it when a wild animal comes into their home.
That it is okay to kill the animal.
But these people make their homes on the very land where the animals have lived for centuries.
And they don’t provide places for the animal to live.

Wild animals really don’t like being around humans anymore than humans like having wild animals about. But if you take their home and then turn around and offer a source of food and a warm area to sleep - what would you expect the animal to do?
Do people realize they are training the animal to do the very thing they don’t want?

I have a farm.
I know the problems with wild animals.
I know that God asks us to be caretakers of ALL His creatures.

Go with Love, Go with God!

Ha ha, I can’t believe it! I made it on someone’s ignore list. That’s very charitable to tell the world that you were so irritated by someone that you had to put them on your ignore list! LOL
