I’m looking for opinions on good criteria for making morally sound investments. Obviously, I would avoid any companies that profit from or support practices such as abortion, contraceptives or embryonic stem-cell research, to name a few.

But what about some of the other questionable practices out there? For example, what do you think about the large number of companies that have started to provide benefits to unmarried couples (so-called “domestic partners”)? More than half of the Fortune 500 are offering such benefits to homosexual couples and in some cases even to unmarried heterosexual couples. Aren’t these companies doing more than law makers or the courts to undermine the traditional family?

I’d like to hear some of your opinions prior to deciding which companies to invest in. What are your opinions?

I would be surprised if it were anywhere close to half. I’d guess 90% or more.

My wife and I are looking into changing investments and have been considering faith friendly choices. We REALLY would like to find some, however the problem we run into is how do you know? “Joe’s Widgets” isn’t supporting abortion’s , etc. , nor is the lumber mill he gets his wood from, but the lumberjack that sells his trees to the mill supports abortion. Would this be compromising having a faith friendly investment?
Currently we are speaking with someone who subscribes to the Dave Ramsey investment teaching, but are still looking.

leemarsh2010, thanks for posting the link.

I never really thought about people wanting to invest in a morally sound fund. I personally would not like to invest in murder, and I bet a lot of other people out there wouldn’t like to either. This would be a really good market niche to take advantage of it if anybody out there works for an investment company.
