Morally Straight or Morally Gay?

There is no big picture. This is exactly what I was discussing. The idea that the BSA cannot control its future is already an admission of defeat. We have already lost if we are not able to admit celibate gay Scouts because of fear of future lobbies.

This is the difference in our perspective. I believe in an ideology and the power to uphold it. You, clearly, do not.
And you, sir, clearly have a comprehension problem. I was going to suggest that you go re-read my post, but such admonition would be useless to an admitted ideologue.

Bye, Baelor.

Byebye. Like you, I am willing to bet that readers will recognize that the reading comprehension problem lies with the other party. 😉

How many merit badges do you have?
As an Eagle Scout I have to say that is irrelevant.
Oh, please. Do you think the generation before you, parents of college age people, are concerned with expediency, that said generation is NOT wiling to fight for what is right?

Not every opponent of the changed BSA admission policy (which I believe is not necessary after reading through the pro and anti sides of the issue) is insensitive to the condition of homosexuals. Exactly what condemnation are you talking about? Although not relevant, you bring it up anyway, not every opponent to the BSA change, which we are discussing, makes exceptions to fornicators, adulterers, or those who do not honor their marriage enough.

It would seem that there are procedures on rules of conduct that the BSA can clarify or institute to prevent systematic discrimination of homosexuals, the chaste or simply effeminate, without the added controversial language on membership admission.

Celibate homosexuals are not the problem. Homosexual behavior is, in the context of scouting activities. Why would it be pertinent to make a disclosure of (homo)sexual orientation on admission or at any point in membership? What and whose purpose does it serve?

If anything is being dismissed here, it is the big picture, which you admit is not your concern. It is simplistic and naive to assert for the foreseeable future that
Sexual behaviour of any kind is against Scouting policy, heck, holding hands is against the rules. Do you know what outing is?
Did you get World Brotherhood and Citizenship in the Nation?
It’s been called Citizenship in the World for only four decades now.

Is this relevant or irrelevant?

Who is judging relevancy these days, you, Baelor or some other committee?

If Baelor is younger than 50 he couldn’t have earned “World Brotherhood” as it has been replaced by Citizenship in the World which has substantially different requirements thus it was relevant to your non sequitur

Logic, if it is a non sequitur then it is irrelevant. The number of merit badges earned is fundamentally irrelevant as an Eagle Scout is an Eagle Scout if he has fulfilled the requirements, submitted the application and been approved. Whether Baelor earned only the minimum number of merit badges for the rank of Eagle Scout or earned all of them is irrelevant to him being an Eagle Scout.

So, I can imagine a bunch of scouts sitting around talking and one asks the other…

How many merit badges do you have?

And from that question you conjure up sequitor, non-sequitors, relevance and who know what else.

How many merit badges do you have?

It is spelled non sequitur, from the Latin “non sequitur” = “it does not follow.”

This is not a thread about merit badges or a forum for Scouts to talk to each other about how many merit badges they have or any other aspect of Scouting other than the one in the OP. This is a thread about the BSA’s policy change regarding gay Scouts. You created it and set the topic in the OP. This thread is in the social justice forum; merit badge count has nothing to do with social justice. Indeed, it is clearly irrelevant. I have reported your for off-topic posts.

Please get a sense of or learn what is and is not relevant. You have consistent issues with this.

You seem to be troubled. Your pleading is that I would get a sense of or learn what is and is not relevant. You do understand that everything is relevant to me as everything is relevant to you. Are you not aware that in discourse we share what we believe to be relevant and weigh that relevance? Is it your understanding that there is some universal accepted relevance or lack of relevance? I agree that consistency is relevant and to be consistent I suggest you think, imagine, pretend if you will that every individual on this planet believes that whatever they think, as they think it, believes that there is relevance in what they are thinking, to them. When they share thoughts you are rude to say…“that’s not relevant”. You do a dis-service to discourse by believing that you have the market cornered on relevance.

Every thought has relevance. The question is to whom or what. It would appear that the problem has less to do with relevance than your ability to understand to whom or what it is relevant to. The best you can do is say…“it is not relevant to me”…that would be you…and then that would be courteous and thoughtful and charitable…I suggest you learn manners.

Not everything is relevant to this topic. What you had for lunch today is not relevant on a thread about the BSA’s policy on gay scouts.
Are you not aware that in discourse we share what we believe to be relevant and weigh that relevance?
What you believe to be relevant is incorrect. Change your beliefs through knowledge and learning so that you understand what is expected in any discussion that involves any dialectic, or even rhetorical, principles. Aristotle can help you. May I recommend reading a book?
Is it your understanding that there is some universal accepted relevance or lack of relevance?
No, because truth value is not determined by number of persons who accept it. Either something is relevant or not. The relevance can be demonstrated and therefore proven. You have not done that; you just keep asking asinine questions that have nothing to do with the topic you yourself created.

I am really willing to take the risk that my beliefs on relevance here are indeed correct. Because they are, and you know it, which is why the other posters agree with me and why you have still not explained why our merit badge counts matter at all.

No, I get it. When I say “relevant,” I obviously mean to this thread, the natural frame a reference for anyone with normal cognitive function.

No, I mean to the thread. Merit badge count is irrelevant to the thread. Stop asking useless and childish questions. That would be intelligent and reasonable and intellectual. I suggest you learn something about anything.

I believe that you are not relevant.👍

My generation is more willing to fight for what is right, whereas your generation is primarily concerned with expediency.
Support for such an outrageous generality? It may be your anecdotal assessment, but my anecdotal assessment yields opposite conclusions: your parents’ generation is concerned with timeless, permanent principles, whereas the younger generation is concerned with subordinating standards of morality to political movements, and is infatuated with populist labels.

Timeless American values like passing the buck by racking up massive debts to pay for wealth transfers to older people to compensate for their poor life choices? The glorious Boomers who successfully imploded the world’s economy?

I was simply hopping on board after other posters made generalizations. 🤷 I thought it was the hip thing to do.

 Because it explains relevant posts in this thread, yes it is.
We disagree…what we need is someone like DR to provide advice as to relevance. If there is no consensus then the best thing to do is to submit it to the committe on relevance
