Morbid: But, do any of you ever worry about dying unexpectedly without a prior confession?

God does not play gotcha with us. I will trust that he will give me the necessary grace to persevere, and if, God forbid, I die in mortal sin, I KNOW it will be my fault, not because God played a game of bad timing with me.
It’s reminders like that, that help me, and I’m sure many, feel at peace when those thoughts pop into my head leading to that sort of fear. I recall expressing this fear to my spiritual Director/confessor and he responded back “do you not trust God’s mercy?” He didn’t say it in a strict or stern way, but more of charitable reminder. It defiantly knocked me back to the reality that God isn’t unfair like that. 😄

I disagree.

I took some beginning courses in immunology and the human body is amazing.

God designed it.

I said the same thing to my spiritual director and he just looked at me and told me the same thing.

Oh yes, absolutely. However, I cannot help but find the muck and the phlegm and the digestion all quite nauseating. The very act of eating can be difficult for me. I see your view very well. From my perspective it is a most disagreeable state of affairs.

Do you do a morning offering?
Our Lady asked at Fatima to do prayers and penances for the conversion of sinners and peace in this world. I’m going to guess that if you start your day off with this intention, giving all your joys and sorrows of the day for it, you can turn your focus on something positive, something that builds. An example would be if you prayed that every step today will be a declaration of Jesus I love you (with one foot) Jesus save souls (with the other foot). With a good habit like this, you’ll see yourself more as a soldier for Christ. Someone plugged into the power of God. Someone who is aware that they are bringing a blessing down on the earth. You have the ability to impact the world for good. Then that idea that Bam! something tragic happens and it’s like God was just waiting to catch you. No. You are a beloved son, bought at a great cost. Yes, go to confession as you need it, but grow in your confidence that God wants to do something amazing today and he wants to include you! This is why we were born. God bless and keep you close to his heart.

I agree with you, it is amazing indeed. I studied psychology (many years ago) and one branch is similar to what are talking about psychoneuroimmunology and it bowls me over how they interact. I have a neuro vestibular illness now and even that amazes me, what doesnt work in my brain now and how my memory fails and what I can and can’t do now compared to what I could. It is extremely fascinating.

I was only referring to the human body as yucky from God’s point of view as the pure being and us as inferior. Imagine if we are this amazing as inferior beings how amazing God must be as the superior pure being we can’t really imagine.

It’s definitely a concern. Jesus talks often about us keeping our lamps lit because we know not when the Master will come for us.

That being said, God is not playing a game of gotcha–He desires our salvation. He is also omnipotent. Jesus promised that whatever we asked for in His name, we would receive (if it is conducive to our salvation). Whatever we seek, we will find. The Father will not give us a scorpion if we ask for bread, etc., etc.

If you pray always for the gift of final perseverance and to be spared from a death without the sacraments, and when you commit a mortal sin, contritely pray for the opportunity to make a good confession, God will ensure you receive these things before you die if you need them to be saved. Pray to St. Joseph also for a holy death.

Yes. I would add: strive to grow spiritually so that neither fear nor sorrow will come at the hour of death.

I remember in the fourth Glorious mystery of the rosary, the Assumption, we pray for the grace of a happy death.
