More children would be dangerous after heart surgery

If someone were about to drink a liquid with poison in it…do you not have a “right” to go tell them to stop, it has poison and can hurt you?

In fact, you have a moral obligation TO do such a thing.

Sins aren’t arbitrary. They are sins because they are harmful to us. Telling someone they are harming themselves is an act of mercy.
Well why would you not stop someone from drinking poison? Unless you are the one who put it in there. Poison kills or sickens someone to a point near death. What does this have to do with what the OP is talking about though? A Tubal Ligation is not going to kill anyone from what I know. I need to look at it more but I just read that it can also it seems be reversed.

Read my post again. Sin is harmful. It’s a death to the soul. This is even more important that bodily death.

Just to add my family never told me contraception was wrong. That was always left up to the individual in a respectful way. I also do not view people who use it as bad or wrong because that’s up to them not me.
I find that sad. God’s truth is beautiful and it is sad that we live in a society that doesn’t teach it. My parents taught me a lot of things that as an adult I realized was wrong. I don’t hold on to what people with good intentions teach, I hold on to what God teaches

As do I you do not know what I fully believe or do not. You think it’s sad and that’s fine for you. I’m not sad for what others believe they have chosen that for themselves. If they want advice I give it and try to move on because dwelling on how sad others make me does nothing for my mental health or soul really.
Have a nice day.

This is a Catholic forum which means it is a place to honestly speak the church’s teachings. One thing my priest is always talking about is the big problem our society has today of thinking morality is subjective. It is not. Everyone must stop at the red light, no one gets to choose if stopping at the red light is moral for them

It is very sad how easily the devil can con others into thinking sin is OK if someone thinks it is

Just saying the Ethics class I took and the Theology one both opened my eyes to a few things. I see extreamists in both this religion and others. That’s all fine and well for them however I constantly keep in mind that not every religion sees things the same.

You know the red light thing is great and all but look at the yellow light before it. Some say go faster when it shows up and some say slow down. Logic dictates that stopping for a red light is best.

Would you say that believing and attempting to following the teachings of the Church make a person an extremist? I’m just wondering, after reading through this thread, how you would define it. Or would believing that the Church was established by Jesus with Peter as the first Pope and that it holds the fullness of truth be an extreme believe?

I know tone can be hard to read on the internet, but I’m curious as to what would make you label a person “extreme” in their beliefs.

I’ve known theology professors who who wonderful at conveying Catholic teaching, and discussing other religions, and others who were really good at obscuring what the Church teaches (at a Catholic university), so I do find myself feeling rather cautious when someone says their eyes were opened in a university theology course. Just by my personal experience, I experienced a major crisis of faith that lasted for years, after taking a not-great theology class where the prof made points that could have been easily been rebuffed by anyone with a basic understanding of Church teaching (but not many of us in the classroom had that).

Anyways, not trying to argue at all, just trying to understand your point of view and where you’re coming from a bit more! 🙂 So much of what you’ve mentioned dealing with sounds so familiar to me that I kind of wanted to say hi and ask a few more questions.

Then I say hi back and ask all the questions you want. That’s how we learn anyway. I also do not think you are trying to argue either.

When I say extremist or extreme I am talking about people who push their beliefs on people who do not agree or have not asked them about said beliefs.

I for example will tell a friend or person about the religion and God if asked. I will however not start going on about it and make them feel awkward and uncomfortable. I will not tell someone they are wrong either if they are of another religion because to them I may seem like I am trying to bash them for it and that’s not what I want to do at all.
We are all entitled to what we believe even if I think hating gay marriage is wrong I will not go up to someone who opposes it and start arguing with them at a rally. That leads to nothing but anger and can make things worse. I would much rather sit down with them over a cup of coffee and talk about it in a mature way.

I have people in my family who have use contraception for medical reasons because without it their life would have been a living Hell. My birth mother got a tubal ligation after I was born. The only reasons I can come up for this are the following:

She may have had no other option at the time and could have even been pressured into having it for all I know.

My birth was dangerous already and was an emergency cesarean. Having another child could have possible killed her and the child.

Due to it having been 1991 in Russia and the government being as bad as it was. She literally may have had no other access to other temporary contraception then the surgery. My birth father is also absent it seems and all I know about him is that he was in the service. Life over there was nothing like it was here. Honestly who would want to bring another child into the life of a person living in Russia back then or now? Its nuts and I am lucky to have been adopted at 9 months old from there.

I was worried about the OP because I know the complications birth can have when you already have a medical problem though I have never had a child myself.

Can I get a tubal ligation? I just had heart surgery Friday and another one tomorrow . I have 4 children and was infertile for years. God blessed me. I am in a situation where if I have more kids I could die and because of my meds my baby would be in danger and it would affect the baby . Doctors said no more.
In my situation what do I do. I don’t trust natural family planning because I am very irregular.
Please help
Hello. First, I hope that your second surgery went smoothly and that you are recovering well.

I understand your concern about NFP because I am irregular at time and I believe I am experiencing some symptoms of perimenopause at almost 38. Those in-the-middle of the night hot flashes and sweats are NOT fun.

Anyway, I had a large umbilical ventral hernia repaired in May and a mesh was used. Recovery was difficult and painful. Even still, I have occasional pain. When we had the initial consultation, the surgeon did not say we could not have more babies after the surgery, but he did warn that pregnancy would undo the repair. Meshes don’t grow and stretch with a growing belly. At that point my husband and I prayed and decided we would abstain each month during my fertile period. I guess it’s a form of NFP, but I don’t chart. There aren’t too many “free” days in the month, but my husband and I view it as a sacrifice.

How are you doing now days?

I would talk to a priest first and follow his advice.
While that course is always good, what possible answers can the priest give to a question such as the one posed by the OP (“Can I get a tubal ligation?”)

I do not view it as evil personally. If this is for medical reasons I can understand perfectly why someone would do it.
The tubal ligation is not, AFAIK, a medical treatment, but a method of contraception. I think you are expressing the personal opinion that contraception is fine, at least if there is a strong motivation for it.

. I would in turn never go up to someone who does use contraception and tell them they are wrong and bad for doing so.
No one on this thread is walking up to someone who uses contraception and telling they are bad. The OP asked if she could use it and we aren’t telling her not to, we are telling her it is a sin and leaving the choice to her

God had a plan or you and that is why you were brought into the world. If everyone had you mentality you would not exist today. Am I suppose to believing you are a bad thing to have in this world? I don’t

Not to mention I have to think it is ridiculous to think someone can’t have a child because they live in Russia:rolleyes:

Where did I say it’s ridiculous to have a child if someone lives in Russia?

This advice is in direct contradiction to Church teaching.

The solution is to avoid pregnancy by MORAL means. That is, to abstain. Either periodically or completely.
After my MIL had her third child, he OB insisted then and there that she have her tubes tied. She was overweight and diabetic, so her doctor thought another pregnancy would kill her.

She did not consult a priest. Her OB did the procedure after her C-section. I truly hoped she confessed this.

So, those who said this is in contradiction with Church teaching are correct.
