More effective spiritual direction

I keep a spiritual diary which details my daily routine. However, somehow I find it getting more like a laundry list of chronological events. Also, I am afraid of reaching out to my spiritual director who is busy with his priestly ministry. I do update him my progress through Facebook messages from time to time, for I may be unable to meet him in the coming two months, but it seems my life is so boring and trivial. Also, my writing is too lengthy - I am much better off in writing than speaking in expressing myself, and I have too many ideas in mind every day. How could I make my spiritual direction more effective? Thanks!
 
I don’t think anyone on this forum can answer that. You’d need to ask the SD for an appt., then inquire as to how he thinks you should do what you’re doing. Sounds like you’re going the Jesuit route. We Dominicans refer to the spiritual classics, and have the person check in (at the confessional, usually) if there’s a problem.

St Faustina was asked to write a.diary for spiritual direction because talking took too long in the confession box.

Read about Ignatian spirituality, this will give you a deeper awareness of what to write down. Excellent books on this are “Discernment of Spirits” by Fr Timothy Gallagher (or any of his books), “The Jesuit Guide to Almost everything,” and the book “God’s voice within.”

You will discover your spiritual life in the normal daily things is not boring. Your every thought or emotion, or seemingly little ordinary events, can often times be a spiritual warfare towards God or away from him.

Ignatian discernment resources are also free online if you Google them.
