I posted a week or so ago about my fiance and I in a JW study.

Her mother, an inactive JW trying to say we are being misled away from the truth. Matthew 26:26 “is” and “means” are the same as translated from the greek …

Her mother also says that Babylon the Great (all other christians) took the name “Jehovah” out of the bible 7000 times …

AND

John 1:1 translation in their NWT is the right translation as “a god” and it wouldn’t make a difference anyway (same idea with Matthew 26:26)

Please give us some insight into these things and please help us to come up with a way not have this topic of religion come up with her since it seems to be a circle… …

In addition … is there any local resources for us … bible study etc… in spokane, WA

There are many topics on this website about the history, beliefs, and mindset of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Simply type the word '“Jehovah” into the website quick search bar. Try not to get wrapped up in the whole “a god” issue. It’s simply a grammatical english translation loophole they use to confuse people into insecurity. They then convince you that only thier organization has the answers. St. John knew exactly what he was talking about, as the early church fathers reinforced it, but I’m sure her Mom has never heard of ECF’s, right? Or church history, either. If you want to avoid the subject around closed minded individuals , make them aware of it plainly and with love. Let God be their judge.

For one thing, Jehovah is not even in the Bible…

Origin of Jehovah…

This pronounceable form of YHWH was introduced in 1520 by Galatinus but immediately strongly contested. Because the Hebrew script only has consonants, the vowels had to be inserted when the text was read out loud. When the language ceased to be used, the Masoretes devised an ingenious vowel-notation system to preserve the pronunciation. However, the name YHWH was deemed so holy that it shouldn’t be pronounced. In stead, the reader would say (adonai), meaning My Lord, from the untranslated root ('adon 27b). Another derivation of this same root is the noun ('eden 27a, not to be confused with , the name Eden), meaning pedestal.

Hence the Masoretes superimposed the vowel-notation of onto and the word Jehovah was born.

I wrote you before, did you get my letter?

They say that John 1:1 should read “a god” because θεὸς doesn’t have a definite article before it. But they translate John 1:6 like this:
There arose a man that was sent forth as a representative of God: his name was John.

But the Greek says this:
ἐγένετο ἄνθρωπος ἀπεσταλμένος παρὰ θεοῦ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Ἰωάννης

Notice there’s no definite article before θεοῦ, yet they still translate it as “God”. Hypocrites…

Their scholars know the definite article is not necessary in Greek (although it is helpful).

As for Matthew 26:26 meaning “means”, I’ve been studying Greek for a long time, the Greek word is ἐστιν and that always means “is”, never “means”.

I’m wondering what they think about John 6:48-58:

I am that bread of life.
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

joberender, there have been posters here on both your threads with very valuable information and research tools. Please read their posts and go to the sites they suggest.
I also think you need to speak to a priest ASAP.

Hi my Brother. Ask her mother, why if their translation is correct about Jesus being a god, we are commanded to baptize in the NAME of the Father Son and Holy Ghost, and not the NAMES. If the Son is not God, and the Holy Spirit is not God, but an impersonal force. then How are we to bapize in the NAME? And not NAMES? Peace and I am praying earnestly for you and your Fiancee. :signofcross:

I would discontinue that group. Love her, but let her know this is too much.

It is only causing alot of distress and confusion, and getting you way way off away from the Lord Jesus and His Life. Nothing you say or do can alleviate the situation.

My friends left a similar denomination…but they were in it long enough to ruin much of any desire to return to the Church or any organized religion. That is what happens to any organization that maligns or abuses…

Our soul is the most sacred part of our being, and it is most sensitive. Protect yourself and your peace. Having true inner peace and being centered in God and the world around you is the sign you are in the right place, and what you learn from that position will only lead you to the right belief and practice.

Any religion claiming to be Christian but invalidating, name calling and distorting any class of people, including Catholics and our church, is backwards and not in the life giving spirit of the True Word of God.

Seek peace…!

Go this link and dowload their copies of their 1969 and 1985 Interlinear’s (it’s free and safe, I have downloaded it myself), and see how downright deceitful their New World Translation is. The website itself will direct you to some scriptures that they altered to fit their theology.

Problem is, they have no scholars. The only person who helped translate their Bible that had any knowledge of Greek or Hebrew was one man, who had studied the languages for two years. Thats it. This has nothing to do with translation problems. They are simply reading the English and changing it to benefit their strange notions.

Good point, Steve…people have to grow in their own self-confidence as well…God gave us a personality, a brain…and grace works together, and for all those who live for Christ, everything has its purpose in bringing greater glory to Christ.

Faith goes hand in hand with reason. A denomination whose construct defines it as the answer to Catholicism is also held in bondage to it…without the Catholic Church, the JW’s would have to find another reason to justify their beliefs.

Catholicism is based on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ Who is Savior and Redeemer of the world, and His Eternal Word is given us to renew and restore us, and make us new.

The Eternal Word of God liberates all people open to HIm…Babylon, etc., is the name defined by those given to the flesh and idolatry…
