Moses instructed the Israelites to eat the Passover lamb each year to celebrate Passover. Jesus is the new lamb and Jesus (the new Moses) instructed us to eat his body. The Eucharist is the New Passover in which we are passed over by death, just as the Israelites were passed over by death.
Those Israelites that didn’t follow the instruction were cut off from Israel. Those Catholics who don’t follow the instruction are cut off from Israel (by God; not b/c some priest says so).
