can you provide some statements and their source?
I don’t think Alma cares what actually happened. Just gotta keep the whitewash freshened up.

Smith intended his son to succeed him, and expected to live to see his son grow to manhood. Of course, with that in mind, the FP would be dissolved, JS III would become President and choose his own FP. Smith was protecting his son’s future.

That scenario could not be played out. I can see how Rigdon would claim the existing FP continued to have the authority, when the named successor was too young to succeed.

Young would have claimed the same thing, were he in the FP.

Is a Unitarian baptism acceptable to Catholics (provided they baptise?)

AA
No. A baptism must be done with these conditions: on a living human person, without coercion, with water, using the Trinitarian formula.

Then there was the Presiding High Council (PHC) that governed the Church under the First Presidency lead by William Marks. Marks supported Rigdon. The PHC died on the vine under Young.

Young pitting twelve against one (Rigdon) was politically brilliant.

If Marks had put the Presiding High Council forward as church leaders like Young did with the twelve apostles, I wonder if Marks would have gained control. I think he would have because of the senior position of the PHC at the time, but we will never know.

So how many types of Mormon congregations are there? Do they have a Bible besides the Book of Mormon?

I don’t understand why the OP said Mormonism is the big thing now.
You mean people are flocking to join the Mormon church?

The Utah-based church claims to be the only Mormon church. There are the FLDS, who still practice polygamy. Other minor sects with their roots in Mormonism have morphed closer to traditonal Protestantism.

Yes, they believe in the Bible, insofar as it has been translated correctly. Since the “apostate” Catholic Church was sole guardian of the Bible for 1500 years, errors crept in. Joseph Smith attempted to rewrite it according to his understanding, but didn’t finish it. They use the King James, since the language is similar to that of the BoM.

She was commenting about the number of Mormon-related threads on the first page. In recent years, there are often about two. Lately, substantially more. Currently, despite a peak in the number of missionaries because of a minimum age change, conversions are down a bit. This is because more people have access to the internet and information about the claims of Mormonism.
