More than 40 crew missing after cattle ship capsizes in storm off Japan

  • Gulf Livestock 1 sent a distress signal from the East China Sea as Typhoon Maysak lashed the region with heavy seas and strong winds.
  • The ship, with 43 crew, was carrying almost 6,000 cattle to China.
  • A rescued crew member said the engine failed and a wave capsized the ship.
More than 40 crew members were missing after a ship carrying cattle from New Zealand to China capsized in stormy weather in the East China Sea, the Japanese coastguard said on Thursday.
The crew of 43 was made up of 39 people from the Philippines, two from New Zealand, and two from Australia, the coastguard said.

one person has been rescued found floating unconscious in the ocean. Although Japan does not declare dead until a hospital does. So this person may have passed.
Pray for more to be found and for this person to recover
