I am a heavy smoker. “Perseverance” is a big concept with me right now. I have been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder.

The Lord is asking me to perseverate over Him instead of smoking, especially.

I am a Catholic only through Baptism of Desire, through the kind words of a priest I corresponded with at one time. I cannot find a church which will accept me as I am ill and do not wash and smoke so much. I am in a new place once again and do not know my way. The priest said that I could ask the Lord for a sacrament such as baptism and He would grant it to me, emphasizing that I should formalize it with a real Church as soon as it became possible for me. This hasn’t happened yet.

But I have fantastic visions of God, of His voice, of clinging to his arm, his breast, his neck, especially “the lovely locks of the Lord”, which are like a lion’s mane to me, falling about me to shield and protect.

I don’t know how to perseverate over the Lord. I know that if I did I could become a true Catholic. But I lived in terrible doubt for so long that it has been enough to me to worship and pray at home as best as I can.

So I add to my other prayer for an increase in faith and help in my Christian walk.

It sounds like you have a lot going on these days and a lot you are working towards regarding your faith. I pray for an increase in faith for you and may the Holy spirit guide you in your Christian walk.

Maybe you could go back to a priest and talk further about what it might take for you to become a Catholic. No one can persevere perfectly and maybe you could be Catholic without worrying so much about perseverance over the Lord. He helps US to stay strong in the Faith and when we fall, God is always ready to pick us up and forgive those who are repentant.

If you become Catholic you will have many ways to help you such as the Sacraments, the Mass etc.

God bless,
Mary.

Your are a true Catholic. I joined the Catholic church as an adult (RCIA) and one of the first things one learns is the moment you seek to join you are a member. The rest of the steps are part of the path Catholics take. Rest assured you already are a Catholic and you even have the right to have a Catholic funeral one day if you asked for it, simply because you have declared, right here in this forum, if nowhere else, that you have begun your neophite journey by inquiry and stated your belief, even.

I will pray you do have the opportunity to formally join a Catholic church community through a priest and/or through RCIA. It is a beautiful experience. I think you should find a priest willing to take you through the steps to baptism if you are too ill to attend RCIA so that you can benefit from that as well, but know you don’t need that to be first considered a Catholic. Anyone that tells you otherwise is ignorant of this fact, and also, in my opinion, has a touch of snobbery lurking.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular mouse333, and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Take care of what you need to do in attending Mass. See a doctor, and a priest. Praying you will find encouragement and support. God bless you.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Praying for you…

Prayer of St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional, and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, especially mouse333, for whom we pray.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on his behalf – especially for his smoking, self-neglect, and OCD. Guide mouse333 to a good doctor who can help with these problems.

Please fill him with hope, and grant him the relief and cure he so desires.
We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.
