When I was a missionary, that was our BIG WOW-EM TOTALLY BLOW THEIR MIND doctrine.

But then, why didn’t he go to Australia also? or Africa? or even the North Pole?

Yeah…why the America’s? Why not Europe?

Better yet…why not other PLANETS…:hmmm:

That has always been my question and I have never received an answer. What is really weird is that Jesus’ little trip to America apparently didn’t turn out any better than his stint in Israel. I guess his Church failed twice. So what was the point? Christ also apparently had no confidence that his disciples would actually accomplish teaching all nations, so he thought he would speed things along by just doing it himself. But he failed, again. We would have to wait for Joseph Smith instead, who claimed to have done better than Jesus in keeping his church together.

Of course. Joey is above the Son of God because Jesus is weak.

WOW! How did the Mormons know Jesus was in the Americas. I know Jesus has been present in the Eucharist at my parish church in America.😉

This is worth repeating:

“God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devil–all corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, pp. 408-409)

From mormon.org/faq/christ-in-america

The Book of Mormon tells of the resurrected Jesus Christ and His visit to His faithful followers in ancient America. After His visits to His disciples in the Old World, He descended out of heaven and appeared to His followers in ancient America.

The Book of Mormon describes how, during His visit, Jesus Christ healed their sick, taught them His gospel, blessed their children, and called twelve disciples to organize His Church in the Americas (3 Nephi 11:18; 3 Nephi 12:1-2).

This would be the answer but not my cup of tea to say the least. 🤷

well, if I ever met a Mormon missionary, I’ll say this is not possible because Jesus ASCENDED into HEAVEN 40 days after he ROSE FROM THE DEAD…He was in HEAVEN not in the Americas.

There were 11 witnesses to this event and its recorded in Scripture. There is no such record for Jesus visiting the Americas. He sent his mother to the Americas in the 1500s to a poor man named Juan Diego, but that was 300 years before Joseph Smith and his false claims.

But why would he visit followers in the Americas…when not any of the Apostles has been to the Americas to start Christianity?

There were no Christians in the America’s at that time? And if jesus did indeed go to the America’s…where are the 12 apostles of the America’s?

Why did the Spaniards, the Pilgrims, the French…Columbus…who went here not encounter any Christians?

A very good point you have there! 👍 Nor were there any paintings/drawings or stories from the native Americans concerning this event.

There’s a large number of folks named Jesus in the latin american culture. Perhaps this is simply a case of mistaken identity.

Wow. Just wow

Because there was a second “Great Apostasy”. Jesus tried twice to start his Church and failed both times.

So the Mormons believe that Jesus failed twice? And how on earth did Jesus get to the Americas when he was in heaven… I’m so confused and somewhat offended at the same time, especially when Joseph Smith says he’s better than Jesus.

I’d only heard of Mormons, through the Donny and Marie show. 😛

Other than that, I learned by coming to CAF about Mormons beliefs. For me (non US born) Ive always chuckled that in Hollywood movies everything happens in the USA. So as far as I am concerned (with no disrespect to all Mormons) perhaps they simply believe this is true because it’s exciting and adventurous to think that Jesus was in the Americas 😉

To be fair, I think the Mormon position would be that man failed, not Christ. What they fail to realize is that it was Christ, not man, who started his Church and made promises concerning his Church; that he would not leave us orphans, but would remain with his Church until the end of time and that the gates of hell would never prevail. They fail to realize that the Church is a divine institution, not a human institution. So their argument fails. The success of the Church is and always has been in the hands of Christ, not men.
