The only Mormon humorists are at the far liberal wing of Mormonism and Mormon culture. Orson Scott Card, for one. They do get hilarious. 😃
**Hi Jerusha, 👋

What about Joseph Smith? He was funny.Making things up and making Christians laugh at him and his followers! On this Thread, MEgus is funny. He won’t even answer two “fair” questions. He attempts to go the “mormon shuffle” (Advoid answering by insulting the other poster!)

I asked him two simple questions…

1). How do you account for the stunning parallels in both content and order between the BOM and the “View of the Hebrews” by Ethan Smith? Published in 1823 (7 years before the B of M) less than 100 miles from the Joseph Smith’s parents home?

2). Why is about 1/8th of the B of M copied directly from the KJV (1611AD) when “it was alleged” to have been written some 1200-2000 years before the KJV existed?

He denyed the truth which anyone can see just by reading! Now that is funny! 😃 **

Card is not liberal. You don’t think I’m funny? Oh well looks are not everything.

You are horribly inconsistent aren’t you? On one hand you are one of the most aggessive, insulting posters on this forum. And you have the audacity to quote Mahatma Ghandi on an eye for an eye. Pure hypocracy.

Have you read the view of the hebrews AND the book of mormon? No similarity

And second Nephi is fascinating for the differences between the version the Nephites had and the modern translation of Isaiah, and actually proves the BOM is true. Joseph knew Isaiah and translated it using the words he knew. You should not criticize things you don’t understand-- it shows ignorance

I answered both your questions. You just didn’t want to hear them.
  1. There are NO PARALLELS between the Book of Mormon and the view of the Hebrews.
Have you actually read both? Answer that for me.
  1. There is No parts of the Book of Mormon copied from the KJV of the Bible.
There are quotes from the Book of Isaiah that came from the the Brass Plates. These have some verses the same as quotes from Isaiah King James, and some verses that are different. And some contain information not in the King James that has been discovered in other translations of Isaiah that show this comes from other records of Isaiah than the King James.

You just ignore what I wrote.

Oh, and did you take the time to actually read the Book of James yet?

OK everybody, check out those last two posts. One minute apart- no way MEgus and me could have seen eachother’s posts making the EXACT same arguments.

You guys have no understanding of this, and obviously we have been through this before!

Nice job ME!👍

Hi mf, :wave;

Yea, WOW! Two Mormons agreeing with each other!:whacky: Who would have thought! :rotfl:
Unlike what you guys claiam, the Book of Mormon suspiciously contains hundreds of “quotations” from the King James version of The Bible (and even whole chapters; compare Isaiah chapters 2-14 to 2 Nephi chapters12-24, Isa 48-49 to 1 Nephi 20-21, Isa 50-51 to 2 Nephi 7-8). You guys think that the alleged prophet Nephi allegedly made the gold plates in 600-500 B.C. They aren’t ‘copies" of writings from earlier books of Isaiah, but from the 1611AD version of the King James version wasn’t published in 500-600AD. Either Nephi lacked enough to write about and so magically transported to the future to copy out of the bible, or Joseph Smith copied out of the King James Bible (which was available to him) in order to enhance his fictitious story with the words of true prophets in order to fool those who weren’t familiar enough with their bible to know that it had been copied. :hmmm: Hmmm, I wonder which could be the truth? Joseph Smith foolishly made it very obvious that he did copy from the bible by keeping the same bible chapter divisions and verse numbers and also kept the same words italicized! Joseph Smith was also found out to be a fraudulent “translator” of ancient manuscripts by 3 men in 1843 who brought to him six thin brass plates which they had made to look like ancient plates with phony hieroglyphics on them. Your great Prophet Joseph Smith began to “translate” them using his seer stone and said they "contain the history of the person with whom they were found. He was a descendant of Ham, through the loins of Pharaoh.’’ After the death of Joseph Smith the 3 men made public the hoax which was then confirmed by experts. University of Chicago professor James Breasted wrote: “The Kinderhook plates are, of course, childish forgeries, as the scientific world has known for years. … Smith, as the translator of those plates, was guilty of deception. How could anyone trust him with reference to his claims about the Book of Mormon” (The Book Of Mormon? James Bales 1958 pp 95, 97-99) Martin Harris, the financier of Joseph Smith when he was ''translating" the gold plates, asked Joseph Smith for a list of the egyptian characters found in them (because Joseph Smith would let no one look at the plates) so that he could have them checked out by a professor and hopefully have his doubts alleviated. Charles Anthon, professor of Greek and Latin at Columbia College, studied them and later wrote that the paper “consisted of all kinds of crooked characters disposed in columns, and had evidently been prepared by some person who had before him at the time a book containing various alphabets. Greek and Hebrew letters, crosses and flourishes, Roman letters inverted or placed sideways, were arranged in perpindicular columns, and the whole ended in a rude delineation of a circle divided into various compartments, decked with various strange marks, and evidently copied after the Mexican calendar by Humbolt, but copied in such a way as not to betray the source whence it was derived” (No Man Knows My History, Fawn Brodie p 51).

mj, Joseph Smith himself said “Take away the Book of Mormon and the revelations, and where is our religion? We have none.” (Teachings of the Prophet, Joseph Smith p 71).

The bottom line, buddy, you have no religion! Your prophet has spoken!**

What ‘stunning parallels?’ B.H. Roberts only found thirteen. I can take any book written before the Book of Mormon was and find thirteen parallels…with any other book written since then.

But let’s see: the biggie seems to be that “The View of the Hebrews” claims that native Americans are Jews, who came to America after a long journey (duh).

Of course, VH claims that they came over the Bering strait on high ground in 70 AD after the Romans sacked Jerusalem, migrated from north to east, and stayed ‘righteous’ for over a thousand years until around 1400 (quite a coincidence, yes?).

Different time. Different people.Different political events. Different reasons for the destruction. Different outcomes.

The Book of Mormon claims that a couple of families came over the Atlantic in two waves; one several thousand years before Christ and one during the life of the prophet Jeremiah…and migrated from the south to the north. Yep, lots of parallels there.

VH has a lovely chart that lists all the names that claim to be of Hebraic origin. The BoM uses none of those. The BoM uses chiasmus, a Hebraic poetic form that was not even recognized at the time the BoM was written, but was nevertheless used extensively in it, as it is in Hebraic writings–but not mentioned in VH.

You do realize that no linguist or scholar of any repute, (who do not have an agenda of ‘out to get the Mormns’) thinks that the BoM is a plagiarism of “View of the Hebrews?”

The two books are too different. They do not share events, vocabulary, names or anything else that they would have to have shared had JS actually ripped VH off.

**Hi diana, 👋

Ok I challenge you top take ANY book written beforew the BOM and find 13 parallels with any other book written since that! You think it is easy? Hint try writtings of Ellen G. White she and Joseph Smith were a lot alike!**

But let’s see: the biggie seems to be that “The View of the Hebrews” claims that native Americans are Jews, who came to America after a long journey (duh).

The BOM claim a lot of dumb things! **

You do reralise that any linguist or scholar who doesn’t think that the BOM is a plagiarism is a Mormon don’t you? Smarter people know the difference! **

**
Shame on you! Read them both, not the stuff you have been told by your church. They are very close! Joseph Smith "borowed things!**

Let’s discuss Joseph Smith’s account of his heavenly vision in 1820 (published in Times and Seasons, 1842). In it God and Jesus told him that all churches were corrupt and that Gods restored church would be established through him. He was also told not to join any of those apostate churches right?
Guess what, at least 5 earlier written drafts of the first vision still exist and the knowledge of these highly conflicting versions have been repressed by your Mormon leaders because they conflict with their currently accepted version. It has been proven.
The Lewis brothers wrote that Joseph Smith originally told them that the heavenly visitation was in a dream, not a vision. (letter of Hill & Joseph Lewis, April 23 1894). The first account says that there was only one heavenly person, the second says there were many, the third says there were two. (The Changing World of Mormonism, Tanner and Tanner, pp 10, 149-155). Joseph Smith later wrote that the vision “was the cause of great persecution…and this was common to all the sects” even though a modern revue of all the local newspapers of that time turned up no hints at all of all the other churches persecuting him. (No Man Knows My History, Fawn Brodie p 23) Also, in spite of having allegedly being told not to join any church, Joesph Smith temporarily joined the Methodist church in 1828. (BYU Sudies, Spring 1969 p 384) Do you notice that I don’t just say things I quote sources. You could do the same if you weren ot quoting off of a Mormon cheat sheet.

My dear Real, that has been answered many times. That you choose to ignore that answer as if it had never been addressed is not my problem.

**
My dear dianaiad, the answer given doesn’t make sense. Just repeating a lie when even Helen Keller could see that over 1/8 of the BOM was directly copied from the KJV of the Bible doesn’t change the lie into the truth except for Mormons I think. You guy should drop the M that would make more sense! You can’t change the truth by denying it!

God Bless**

No I said Mormon HUMORISTS!! 😃 Mormons who do not make a living from humor get hysterically funny BECAUSE of their Mormonism, not because they are TRYING to be funny. 😃

What I find funny is that the Spalding content of the BOM prophesies the end of Mormonism. 😃

mfbukowski;:
And second Nephi is fascinating for the differences between the version the Nephites had and the modern translation of Isaiah, and actually proves the BOM is true.
a) Which of the umpteen versions and redactions of 2 nephi published by the church of jesus christ of latter day saints are you using as your base line?

Or would you be refering to one of the versions redacted and published by the reformed church of jesus christ of latter day saints?

Or perhaps you are referring to a version redacted and published by one of the splinter groups of one of those two versions of mormonism.

b) The difference are no more fascinating that those of the YiJing and the Chinese translation of the Bible.

(And yes, I have a concordance that amongst other things includes the Bible (Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Spanish, English, German, Chinese, Japanese, Xhosa, and Arabic), YiJing (Chinese and English), Book of Mormon (English), Pearls of Great Price (English), Doctrines and Coveantns (English — both CoC and LDS versions), and The Mahabarata (Sanskrit and English), amongst other works.)

The format of your post makes it almost impossible for me to answer it point by point. It is very difficult to quote, and, quite frankly, not worth the trouble.

So I will address just the first question: you challenge me to take one book written before the BoM and find thirteen parallels with a book written after that?

Fine. I’ll make it even easier. you pick the two books. Any two, EXCEPT that the Book of Mormon may not be one of them.

Oh, by the way, chiasmus was NOT mentioned, or used, in VH. Sorry. I don’t think you’ve actually READ 'View of the Hebrews," have you?

Never mind…I’m taking a look at Sean Heaney’s translation of Beowulf and already I can see parallels between it and the Book of Mormon. Hmmmn…I guess that’s it…The BoM is a plagiarism of BEOWULF!!!

You have no credibility whatsoever. You even attack your own position here without even knowing what you are doing. D quoted View of the Hebrews about how the migrants came over the bering straits, and now you attack that they came over the bering straits–

No more answers from me. You attack your own positions and don’t even know it. You ignore replies and simply repeat the same thing over and over. No credibility. And I am being charitable without telling you what I really think.

Real, when are you going to get real???

So, your saying that if the King James Bible has quotes from Isaiah they are new works and not actual quotes from the real book that Isaiah wrote? Please!

How about if I use that logic on your Bible, where will that leave you?

And you did not answer my questions. I answered yours twice.

Have you ever read “View of the Hebrews”?

Yes or No???

Have you ever read the Book of Mormon?

Yes or No???

And I see most of your work comes straight from Anti Mormon stuff that makes quotes that are not quotes and distorts things.

Go do some actual research on the Kinderhook plates and you will see this account is a big twist. Joseph saw them, but did not comment on them or try to interpret them. Maybe because he knew they were fraudulent.

And have you read the Book of James yet???

The bottom line is that he says Joseph got the BOM from the view of the hebrews and then attacks the view of the hebrews as not being historical. Unbelievable. Un…Believable. Fill in the blank :banghead:

What if your “prophet” said that all Mormons (LDS) had to start practicing polygamy again, would you do it? If your doctrine says to have multiple wives, why don’t y’all practice it now?
