Wow! Just proves that it doesn’t matter what religion you are. Humans are just that, humans. We sin.

Wow. It took the LDS two days, two days, to “defrock” this monster. In lieu of this joke of a sex abuse summit going on in the Vatican the LDS General Authorities should’ve been flown into Rome for a consultation.
The point is well-taken, but let’s not forget that the Mormons have quite a bit of experience dealing with internal sexual abuse.

The sexual abuse of women in the Mormon church goes all the way back to Joseph Smith, who was a predator, himself.

I’m always shocked to hear stories like this. I lost my hero worship of humans in prestigious positions a long time ago, so although I’m sad, I’m not automatically shocked into disbelief. I’m glad they caught him, I’m glad my church removed him swiftly (before formal charges even have been filed. The trial will probably take a year or more, and not every evildoer gets convicted).
“The behavior alleged in this incident is completely unacceptable and unbecoming of any member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially of someone serving in a position of local leadership," spokesman Eric Hawkins said. "Upon learning of this situation, local leaders took immediate steps to relieve him of his role and to identify his replacement.”
And ten bucks says that if there has been some mistake and they truly did get the wrong guy, some folks will still use the story as a club against the LDS church, calling foul at how quick we are to throw people under the bus to preserve a shiny reputation, or some such.

I think prudence requires that you err on the side of safety and take him off the playing field until the dust settles. If it turns out that he’s guilty, he gets excommunicated and everything worked as it should have. If he is found not guilty, then it’s just an unfortunate embarrassment. I don’t see it as a rush to judgment.

I’m not surprised that you said this. The whole persecution thing still runs rampant in your church or the “don’t judge me because I sin differently”. I hear it all the time from your members. But man do people like to bring up the Catholic Church and the sex scandal. I’m not saying these men are right because we know its bad but why be quick to strip them of their religion and open the door for more sin. I would think trying to help these men to sin no more would be the first thing to do after the legal system gets done with them.

And continues with Warren Jeffs who from jail is running FLDS.

And the Catholic Church doesn’t?
I don’t follow your point.

Catholics have 2,000 years of experience.

A Mormon ‘Bishop’ is a local leader. Not a leading member of the Church.

Losing your position as a bishop or priest doesnt strip you of your religion
In the midst of such a scandal it’s better a new face is in the pulpit every sunday, wouldn’t you agree.

I totally agree. A new face should be present. Sorry. I didn’t mean to say religion. I meant their position within the church. But in no way am I defending these men.
