If you’ll notice in the chart I shared, they consider 158 million Americans as “unclaimed”. Most of those would answer that they’re a Christian on a survey. But, that number was arrived at by figuring out how many active members every denomination has. So, you’re left with roughly half of all Americans who aren’t actually officially part of a Church or religion of any kind. Again, most of them would probably consider themselves Christian. Some might even go to small ‘house churches’. But most of them are what the Protestants call “the unchurched”.
So yeah, you’re right in that overall, this country is becoming less religious period. I encourage y’all to look at the data for your state on there. It’s very fascinating. But almost every state has a majority of the population listed as “unclaimed”. Again, they’re not going to any Church or religious body that would consider them a member.
So, as the Bible promises us for all times, “the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few”.
