the state I live in is 25 percent mormon the mormon church grows here at about 17000 ever ten years. And those stats are real
The rate is based on baptisms of both converts and children of record. The stat I would be more interested in is the retention rate, which, I bet, is probably quite low.

I thought progressivism and modernism were supposed to stem the attrition!

Lol its huge. The wards in my city are packed. I live in one of the fastest growing areas of the country. 2 new temples have been built recently mormon families are the dominant force in my area. My kids are in mormon sports leagues that are growing exponentially. It’s an explosion.

Of course. There’s almost 500,000 mormons in my state. Around 25 percent of the population. That’s kind of what makes it a great place to live.

Sounds like Idaho.

Since when did the Mormons have “sports leagues”? Is that a new thing or is it unique to Idaho?

And FYI, the Mormon church isn’t having exponential growth anywhere in the world. Not even in Idaho.

I believe we live in the same state and this isn’t my perception of what is going on with the Catholic Church. In my area of the state I haven’t heard of any parishes closing or merging. RCIA numbers are climbing as well as religious education numbers and youth group numbers.

There are many family activities run by the Mormons here. League Basketball and soccer, football etc. They are less competitive and more family friendly. By family friendly I mean they take into account people have kids. So practice is scheduled for the half hour before the actual game. It’s revolutionary to kids and sports. I can put 4 kids in soccer and it takes only a Saturday morning. Sportsmanship is key and no parents are problems on the sidelines. Growing up like this did have disadvantages. no doubt, Parts in plays and spots on sports teams in the schools are given to mormons. Mormons build wards next to the schools and in high school the mormon kids get school credit for classes at the mormon church. But when I attended Catholic school as a non Catholic it was of course the same for the Catholics. And yes, I understand I live in a rapidly growing area, but the mormon influence does not shrink. It is growing even faster then the general population. I worked security at the opening of the new temple two years ago. Over a million visitors.

Mormons in general have wonkey theology. And they inflate their numbers internationally for sure. But I assure you they are not trying to keep the wheels on. The Catholic Church in my area is sick very ill. And shrinking.

There is a marked move to relax in the mormon church, this you are most correct on. However, it is no different than the Catholic moves. In fact perhaps less pronounced. Maybe, following your logic the Catholic Church has done what you think the mormons have done. Altar girls, relaxed rules, a changed way of worship for the Mass, dietary rules relaxed, dress relaxed, different ministries for the youth ie Lifeteen, and life teen Mass. Music, language changes, CITH, etc. All in an attempt to keep the wheels on. It doesn’t work does it? Or maybe the Church has made changes to fit in more with the modern times not as an attempt to keep more people But rather make adjustments they feel make more sense for a changing style of worship (though you and I may not agree they make more sense)

I will say that numbers can and are manipulated by all sides. The Catholic Church claims 1 billion. Plenty are baptized Catholics who do not practice. Probably the majority.

I’ll PM you because I dont want to share some things publicly.

Okay, you previously called them Mormon sports leagues. It sounds like what you’re saying is that it’s Mormons who run the leagues, but they aren’t “Mormon leagues”. There’s a big difference.

I’m well aware of the Mormon seminaries for high school kids. I used to be a seminary teacher! 😎

The Mormon church is the final stages of a long collapse. The internet killed them because it allowed people to find out the truth about many of their claims.

yes many activities are run by the mormons. You are picking up what I’m laying down ! 😉

Yeah, the internet that vast place of Truth where everyone agrees on what claims are false. That internet…

To be fair prior to accessibility to the internet the LDS were pretty limited on what materials they were able to obtain. I believe the internet has opened the information for the LDS. What they choose to do with it 🤷‍♀️

Catholics on CAF know there is a history problem for the LDS and the internet has made it possible for the LDS to know there is a history problem for the LDS.

Yup. I was one for years. The people are wonderful, very moral and upstanding. Sadly though, the church is based on a very flimsy house of cards.

It sure is funny that Catholics, a Church CHRIST did not start, think they are Experts on Churches they have never been Members of just so they can spread Hate,
Was a Mormon for almost 60 years. I am a Catholic who knows a lot about the Mormon church. Do I hate Mormons? Absolutely not. Do I hate the Mormon cult? I’m afraid that I do.

You don’t want to hang out here very long do you? Again CAF is a Catholic forum, meaning the majority on this forum are Catholic. I know a great deal about the LDS, went to college in Utah and live in a state with a large LDS population.

Your claim is ridiculous. Catholics do not hate generally. Hate is a useless emotion. We know the truth of the LDS and we know the Truth of the Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ in 33AD. The LDS claim of apostacy is baseless. There is zero foundation for it. Joseph Smith created the story. Since we have provable, documented apostolic succession AND the gates of hell did not prevail (again another provable claim), we can certainly show we belong to the One Holy Apostolic Church.

If you want to know the truth hang around and we’ll tell you.

Never heard that as a Mormon. :-/
Even the temple ceremony has the godhead (LDS definition) as being creators
The “creation” in the temple uses the word organize or formed instead of create. He doesn’t create light and darkness. He separates the light from the darkness. He doesn’t create animals on the earth. He places them on the earth. From what I remember, they very carefully avoid the use of the word “creation”.
