Can anyone point me to a good forum for discussion and debating Mormonism or any other faith including Protestantism?

The best site I can think of is mormondialogue.org. There is an unfortunate position among members of the LDS faith holding that anything critical of LDS beliefs is anti-Mormon, and thus one often cannot enter into debate on such forums without being banned; however mormon dialogue tends to be a bit more flexible.

mormondiscussions dot com is another good one.

3 levels of discussion and moderation.

Interesting place.

lds.net has a forum similar to this. It’s slower moving, by a long shot, but it can be interesting. Time to grow a thick skin, trust me. You can post on the “Christian Beliefs Board”. If you try any of the other “Boards” they don’t allow anyone to question a Mormon belief. I found this out the hard way.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I was banned within 2 hours from that one after being called a “cultural catholic”.

The best site to debate Mormonism, in my opinion, is mormondialogue.org. Most users are practicing Latter-day Saints (some of whom have undergraduate and advanced degrees in areas like history, archaeology, near eastern studies, Biblical Studies, etc), however there are a number of Evangelicals, Catholics, and agnostics and atheists that participate there. LDS.net is another, but it is much slower in pace, and not really about debate (it’s purpose is more about teaching LDS beliefs and providing support to members, not necessarily to critique or debate those beliefs).

I have yet to be banned, but I have to laugh when I hear Mormon’s complain about being treated poorly on CAF. They should step into a Catholic’s shoes on lds.net.

I cannot believe the heavy handed moderation over at mormon dialogue.

Capricious bannings are rampant over there, it is amazing.

I haven’t been over to lds dot net yet. Maybe I should make an appearance over there.

But, by far, mormondiscussions.org is by far my favorite.

They have it divided into 3 different forums, plus a chat room.

I’ll have to give it a shot.

Mormon dialogue has no tolerance for debate that isn’t towing the Mormon party line.Every discussion they have about Christianity becomes an opportunity to mock the Holy Trinity.

Mormon discussions has a diverse participation. They are for the most part uninformed regarding Protestantism. There are more topics on atheism than Christianity.

lds net is boring!

Actually, Mormon Dialogue has allowed debate by a number of non-Latter-day Saints that don’t tow “the Mormon party line”. There is an Evangelical poster there that is in some sort of authority position of a website critical of LDS beliefs (IRR-Mormons in Transition), and he has posted a multitude of threads, as well as posts critical of LDS beliefs. The difference between him (and other non-LDS posters like him) and others is that while they are critical of LDS beliefs, certainly believing them to be false and/or non-Christian, they are able to have a respectful debate about these disagreements. This is in contrast to other posters that are not as respectful. Also, the board has no tolerance for LDS posters that are disrespectful, and frequently bans them from threads and even the entire board (zerinus being a recent example).

And while I’m sure that there are certain LDS posters that end up "mock"ing certain traditional Christian beliefs (and I certainly don’t believe that we should mock when showing our disagreement), to be honest, this forum has many examples of people mocking various non-Catholic beliefs, including LDS beliefs. Neither is right.

Mormon Discussions, to me, seems to have more non-LDS and non-Christians than LDS or traditional Christians, hence the slant of the threads and posts there. 🤷

🤷 Mormon dialogue has no tolerance, whatsoever, for anyone who has left Mormonism. Zero. An Evangelical is tolerated only because they hope to convert him/her.

zerinus! wow.

:rotfl: ok, if you say so. And we wouldn’t want to hope to bring the ex-LDS back home…ok

Yep, one of a number of LDS posters banned there.

If your skin is thick, and you want to see the worst that can be tossed, go to CARM.org
They have many sub-forums with a couple focused on Catholics that get nasty. They also have a section dedicated to cults where you can find JW & mormon discussions.

I’ve found the Arminianism vs Calvinism forum to be intersting. It’s fun to see protestants slugging it out on predestination.

If you go, go there armed with the Truth in Christ. Challenge them on Christ’s real body and blood in the Eucharist. Cite both biblical text and the ECFs. Perhaps mention Luther’ belief too (OK, tomorrow is Reformation Sunday so let’s be united as Jon states). They really don’t like Catholics challenging them on this point because they don’t have an answer. This is what got me kicked me off some time ago. OK, to be honest, I may have asked them if they thought Jesus was a liar? 😛

Then ask them about the canonization of the bible and what Church gave them the bible that they are using (minus 7 books removed by a printing company). 🤷

Then when you are sure you are about to get the boot, invite them to CAF. 😃

Laugh all you like. I know what I experienced. I wouldn’t touch that place again.

He was banned here some time ago. My fondest memory of him is telling me something along the lines that God would never hear my prayers because I left your cult.

Remember our other lovely poster (mormon) who made the statement that anything an ex mormon said would be a lie, or a twisted truth?

She was a real pip wasn’t she?..LOL

Yeah. I still think if we met her in real life she would be a hoot to hang around with. I would have liked to meet her.

At any rate, it’s this type of belief/attitude that is prevalent at Mormon dialogue. That place leaves me with a feeling of the creeps like like no other. One of the posters sent me a PM once that really kind of scared me. It was very threatening. So no, I don’t go there.

But, it is what Mormons are taught, and they believe what they are taught. It’s for this fact that I don’t hold a grudge against how they view former Mormons. I just don’t need to dialogue with people who think and believe like this. So I don’t, and I wouldn’t recommend that others do. 🙂

You got that right. It reminds of a joke. A man was sitting on his couch watching the tube when he heard a faint knock at the door. He got up and went to the door but no one was there. As he was sitting back down he heard the faint knock again. He answered the door but again, no one was there. He looked down and saw a snail, picked it up and hurled it into the yard. About a month later he heard the faint knock again. He went to the door and there was the snail. The snail looked up and said “so what was that all about?”

I’ve never seen such a slow moving forum in my life. It literally takes weeks sometimes before you receive a response to a post.
