If these “different things” about God are in the Bible then please show me. The Bible does not show “different things” about the One True God, therefore, you cannot worship the same God we Christians do.Permit me to correct your statement. It should read: Latter-day Saint Christians believe different things about the one true God, whom other Christians also worship.
Again, the Holy Trinity is adequately described in the Bible and there are NO “different things”. Please show me what they are.Again: Latter-day Saint Christians believe different things about the Trinity.
That’s really rather offensive, if you stop and think about it. But don’t worry; we’re all pretty thick-skinned. We have to be, to stick around here.
But I’d like you to think about at least making an effort at being more tactful when you discuss the faith of others.
If you consider the truth that I have related in my post as offensive then try being Jewish or Catholic, then you will know what offensive is.I suggest you read Offenders for a Word, by Peterson and Ricks. It actually settles the above question, once and for all. You can read it free, here.
Thank you for the information. Christians use the scriptures ( the Bible ) 100% of the time in study. Other books may or may not be used as references or for explanations and not to enhance the scriptures. The only books that are inspired of God are those that make up the Bible. Please see my thread on the sources and scope of LDS doctrine. We use the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price together. They harmonise nicely and are seamlessly cross-referenced. The Bible makes up about 50% of our Scripture study curriculum.
I have heard many variations involving the translation of the scriptures in the Bible. According to Catholic and non-Catholic ( other than the LDS ) scholars and theologians,It is more accurate to say that we don’t believe it is inerrantly translated.
minor variations in translation do not affect the inerrancy in translation of the scriptures.
I agree wholeheartedly, but I have yet to hear any Mormon relate completely what they do, or do not, believe.Instead of announcing what Mormons do and don’t believe, it might be better to follow Bishop Stendahl’s advice and allow us to speak for ourselves.
Sorry, but many LDS in this forum and others I have spoken with have singled out Catholicism. Also it seems that not only Joseph Smith but also Charles Taze Russel, Mary Baker Eddy, Maria Blastevesky, Swedenborg, and a myriad of others have all claimed that the Lord told them that “no Church on the earth was acknowledged as His”.We certainly don’t single out the Catholics for that. As at 1820, the Prophet Joseph Smith reported that the Lord told him that no Church then on the earth was acknowledged as His.
When Jesus established His Church He said that He will always be with it. He also put it under the protestion of the Holy Spirit. Now if what Smith, and the rest, say is true, then Jesus IS NOT who He has said He is and has perpetrated the BIGGEST SCAM this world has ever seen.
I know that Jesus is true, because He has protected and kept His Church for almost 2000 years, through all the machinations of the Devil in trying to destroy it from within and without, and He predicted all this would happen.
That’s not necessarily the same thing. I would argue that the differences are superficial rather than essential.
Yes, definitely. It has been proven many times over. Can the Catholic Church – can any church – provide “legitimate proof” for the resurrection of Jesus? Or any of the miracles recorded in the Bible?
Thank you for your opinion. You will understand that believing Latter-day Saints see things differently.
Yes I do, completely.Regards,
