Yes, it does help. Thanks for the info. Because both Mormonism and Masonry tend to be so secretive, it is difficult to discern the actual connection between them. I was Mormon for 11 years but was never Masonic. Therefore I look to Masons like you to fill in the gaps. I believe that there are many misconceptions among Mormons as to the similarities and differences between their rites.

It is apparent to me that Joseph Smith borrowed some Masonic elements for his temple ceremonies. Even Masons acknowledge that. Joseph Smith even said so himself. But I respect the Freemasons’ right to distance themselves from those who steal from them. It could be very disconcerting to have someone profane what you consider sacred.

God love you,
Paul

Paul-
I agree that Mormonism has “borrowed” from masonry, and am quite comfortable with that historical fact. Our local Time/Warner access channels show the annual Mormon meeting where the podium has upon it a beehive - my favorite masonic symbol !

Masonry has evolved to be more open in the past 10 years than in all of the centuries it has existed - both as an operative craft, and now- as a fraternal order. I can answer just about any question you may ask. But my uncle would not even tell you if he was going to a lodge meeting - it’s changed THAT MUCH in less than 20 years.

There is still very bitter history between the Catholic Church and freemasonry which must be dealt with. Some are unwilling to follow Christ and forgive. Some older Masons are suspicious of the Catholic Church. But quoting long-dead Masons and long-dead popes will only fuel the flames of hatred and distrust. We no longer live in 1889 !

Here’s another link that I learned quite a bit from:

www.masonicinfo.com/anticatholic.htm

Ed is a younger mason like myself - we have no festering historical baggage or grudges to cultivate. But it irks both of us when misinformation is promulgated as fact - especially when done in a malicious manner - especially against our fraternity.

The BIGGEST secret of freemasonry ? We take good men and make them better.

Take care, Paul - have a blessed Advent !
